In reporting a shooting in Boston, the daily mail (UK) shows a picture of the Boston Police Commissioner, William Evans.

Gaunt face, nearly-pointy ears -- dude looks like a Wood Elf. Yes?

No. He's showing visible signs of age. No elf would be caught dead with that many wrinkles.

Maybe he's a wood elf...disguising himself as a human! He just failed his disguise roll.

So more likely a half-human/half-elf -- with shorter lifespan than an elf, and might show wrinkles?

Nah, I'm already pushing the similarity too far.

What people are overlooking here is that Boston is about a thousand years old, and Mr Evans has been enforcing the law there that whole time.

Boston was founded in 1630. Since when is 385 "about" a thousand?

(Says the Bostonian, who is proud of the area's history, but is also aware that there are private homes in Europe that are older....)

Doh! I saw the reference to the Daily Mail and assumed it was referring to Boston in Lincolnshire.

Sorry about the confusion! I probably should have said "Boston, MA" somewhere in there.

I try to get most of my news online -- for the sake of a wider range of selected stories and of opinions* -- but I find the Boston Globe to be somewhat unreliable, while the Daily Mail is interesting; so I used that.

* both Google and Yahoo! aggregate stories from many sources.
