Dunai Treefolk: Something stirring in the jungle

Well, I have a tendency to prefer wizard as well. I hardly ever play jack-of-all-trades wizards, I prefer to specialise my wizards (but not necesaril by using the specialist class). My last wizard was the Ray mastah, with Weapon Focus (Ray), Spell Focus (Necromancy) and Greater Spell Focus (Necromancy). Those Ray of Enfeeblement and Ray of Clumsiness sure did hurt. I later chose Weapon Finesse (Touch) since I had 16 dex and only 9 strength. Used a combination of Cat's Grace / Shield in combat.

But its true, we all have our favourite classes. Just seems there are very few who have the Ranger as their preferred class. Last time I had a Ranger ín my group, he started as lvl 4. After advancing to lvl 5 as ranger, he didn't like it anymore and started advancing as fighter instead.

So, whatya think is wrong with my Ranger? Its too powerful, not powerful enough, to strange? It was kinda made to be da mastah of ambushes...

Hmm... Remove the bonus feats, sneak attack and wild shape, then add bonuses to ranged attacks (+1 to hit and damage every three levels) and it shoud be fine, you could add posion proficiency and the trapfinding/disarming qualities of the rogue. maybe bonuses to climb, jump, balance and swim also.

Of course, it is just suggestions. :D

Its a little bit overpowered, but its not a PC class, its used for NPC
s only. If I were to make a PC adoption, I would surely remove the Wild Shape, as suggested. Hmm, I would give Poison Proficiency to the Tergarth elven rangers, but probably something else to the other elves. High elves (which are the Ancient race in my world, making them a bit more like leShay than the common High elves) would have Holy Smite or something, which goes better with their ways. Normal elves could probably get Awarness instead of Poison Proficiency.

Sounds interresting. By the way, the Ranger class will be changed (somewhat) in the Revised Core Rulebooks out later this year. Just thought you should know.

Later,

Hmmm, revised core rulebooks. Seems like there's nothing stopping them WoTC bastards from getting their hands on more cash. Well well well...

Its only the ranger and the sorcerer that are race-dependent classes in my world, all other classes are still normal. My sorcerers have the biggest changes from basic classes, even more so than rangers. For example, Fey sorcerers are limited to spells that have to do with Enchantment and Illusion (meaning, they rock at all Charm Person, Domination, Hypnotism, Change Self etc. but lack at offensive spells). Instead of letting the Sorcerers choose their spells for themselves, they have a spell-list from which to choose. But, they have all the spells from the individual spell lists instead of merely having to choose some that they know.
Fey sorcerers, to use the same example, can only cast non-offensive spells (even though sleep, hypnotism etc. are pretty okay on offense). Fey Sorcerers get Magic Missile as a 3 rd. level spell :)
There are sorcerers for all of the four elements, for the fey, draconic sorcerers and warrior-sorcerers etc.
Remember Krisnath, if you use any of my monsters in actual DM sessions, tell me how they did. Im, as always, anxious to hear some good status reports on the doings of my little critters. Im actually gonna use your Tasked Genies in my next setting, ill tell ya how it goes when we are done :)
Im still abit anxious about getting any status reports on my vampires, I still think theyre pretty okay, even though I have still to see how they fare in other peoples campaigns. Anyways, Clay_More out

Very cool, Clay_More. The resemblance to my vin is striking. Almost embarassing. But I like 'em. Good coverage of all levels of challenges.

I guess great minds think alike ;)

Demiurge out.

Always liked a critter that was usable at more levels. These could challenge from lvl. 4 to lvl 30 something.
But, they are quite different from the Vin, both in alignment and mannerism, so no harm done. Yours can evolve from every single Vin, mine demands Mothers to spread. And, the tactics involved are quite different. They would make excellent enemies though ;)
