Dwarven Defender AC Bonus

Celtavian

Dragon Lord
There is a table that gives the Dwarven Defender an AC bonus every 3 levels.

Is this a typo or does the dwarven defender gain a universal AC bonus as they level?

The dwarven defender table is on pg. 33 DMG.

Normally I'd say descriptive text trumps entries in a table; as a precedent, look at the deepwood sniper, which gets a keen edge ability at 6th level that isn't referenced in the text. In this case, since there's no mention of the AC bonus anywhere in the text, I'd say it's an error.

I've always used it as an unnamed bonus, so it stacked with everything. I never noticed they didn't get it in the ELH. Inquiring minds want to know.

It hasn't been errattaed away, which would indicate to me that it is really an abillity they get. Since it isn't described, our group goes with an unnamed bonus. It isn't as if it is really that powerful of an ability.

As for it not being in the ELH, I hadn't noticed that. It should be. When the party's DD gets that far, we'll have to look at maybe rewriting the ELH's DD a little to factor it in.

That's pretty much how I'm looking at it. The erratas for the core books has been pretty complete. Plus the AC bonus really makes sense for the class.

You'll have to weaken other parts - the class is balanced (a little on the powerful side, even) without the AC bonus, it seems. :(
