Percy again pinches her nose. "Yuck. Perhaps I should have waited and tried to get my detect magic spell to work in all these rooms. Do you want any help with that chest, Nars?"
"Er, ah, let me take a look." Nars moves over to the chest. He cautiously examines, despite not expecting it to be trapped (3 rounds), and then after disabling any traps, he opens it. After getting the chest open, he will take a look at the dresser.
OOC: Search +9, Open Lock +12, Disable Device +12.
Nars spends a bit of time searching the chest for traps but does not find any. Reaching out to open the lid his hand is momentarily engulfed in liquid darkness as he feels the chest steal a small portion of his life. (9 dmg). He withdraws his hand the memory of pain still coursing through his mind.
A shiver runs through Nars and a hiss escapes his lips, his face turning rather pale. He pulls back his hand and rubs it. He more closely examines the chest (Search take 20) to see if he can see the mechanism for the trap.
After a more detailed search Nars finds tiny spell runes, which when Percy looks at them appear to be an evil spell called inflict light wounds. Knowing quite a bit about traps Nars knows that the spell will probably affect him again unless he is able to disarm it.
OOC: [SBLOCK]Did Nars get a saving throw to avoid the trap? You didn't mention it so I thought I would ask. Actually, I think he might get two saving throws, a reflex save to avoid the trap at +8 and a will save at +3 to resist half the damage. I'm not trying to second guess, that's just quite a run of bad luck. I'm perfectly happy with you ruling that he does not receive a save since he was reaching out to the chest and expected it to not be trapped.
Whether he would get a saving throw or not makes a big difference on whether Nars will try to disarm it. Also, please don't feel pressured to answer yes or no. As far as I'm concerned, an acceptable answer is "you don't know." I just want to know where I stand.[/SBLOCK]
Slagmortar:[sblock]Sorry I didn't describe it well, you did receive a Will save DC 11, I rolled a 5 for you and with your bonus it wasn't enough. Then I rolled max damage and said Doh!. Your three search checks were 15, 24, 15 which weren't quite enough to get you there.[/sblock]
With focused precision, Nars gives this trap the attention it deserves. Through cunning and deft hands, the dwarf is able to disarm the magical trap. He opens the chest and discovers quite the find. Inside, shining in the dim light Percy's torch provides, rests a large amount of gold coins and an amulet on a fine gold chain. The workmanship on the amulet is quite intricate and depicts an angel similar to the one on the necklace found earlier. In total there are over 900 gold coins in the chest (904gp).
Slagmortar:[sblock]Nope no ref save. That only applies with some traps. Here is the trap text: Inflict Light Wounds Trap: CR 2; magic device; touch trigger; automatic reset; spell effect (inflict light wounds, 1st-level cleric, 1d8+1, DC 11 Will save half damage); Search DC 26; Disable Device DC 26. I'll have to work on describing the will save. Much better luck this time though.[/sblock]
"Very nicely done, Nars. You do look like you could use a bit of healing. Ishmael will fix you right up. Then we'll have a look at the dresser. Do you think Courage could carry this load? I've still got Gwendolyn outside, but I don't think she'd want to come in this dark, scary place."
OOC: Erekose, would you be interested in having one of us track the loot? Or are you thinking you'll take care of that? I could edit one of the 'junk' posts I made at the beginning of this thread & post our accumulated treasure in it.
