Ok. This is a very very specific question - not too much exciting room for discussion...I'm planning on running a cleric of Kossuth that will proceed to level as an elemental archon. First, some background.
According to F&P, a 1st level elemental archon can summon up to 3 mephits per day that relate to his element.
According to the MM, mephits themselves can attempt to summon mephits of their same kind once per day but only with a 25% success rate. Newly summoned mephits can then, in turn, similarly attempt to summon a mephit after 1 hour.
So here's my question - do newly summoned mephits return to their home after one hour ? - or can my elemental archon's 3 mephits (which are permanent until killed) go summoning crazy, eventually summoning an army of mephits over time? Here's a link that makes me think the former is true:

Nevertheless, is there some kind of literature to back up the theory that newly summoned mephits disappear after an hour? I don't recall reading it in the MM (which I don't currently have in front of me - I'm at work).
