Elf racial weapon's and the Druid

In my own campaign I run things a bit differently. Druids can only use weapons naturally created, that is from wood, and bone or hand crafted with a minimum of tools and with out any "Processed" materials coming into play.

Basicly this means that they can use bows, and spears, and other weapons, but can not use scimitars (which was always odd to me anyways).The armour they wear also must be of natural origin. Now I don't eliminate them from doing all the work them selves and using natural resins and fibres. But unfortunate things can happen as a player skinned a Drake (big lizard) and as a favour asked some dwarves to make him scale armour. And they will but they'll use processed materials to do it. So once he discovers this the armour though of great shape will be a bane to him as he won't be able to wear it with out loseing powers for 24 hours.

Had he instead had eleves craft it, using natural processes and skills, plant and animal oils, etc it would have made scale mail armour as the PH but a druid could wear it.

I do this more for the role playing flavour of the campaign, which has worked well for me but may not for every one. I find it gives druids still a limited assortment of weapons and armour, but not so limiting as to eliminate them from combat. Also unlike more tradition games I wanted to get away from swords and platemail and more leathers, and hides, and spears.

Another common house rule is to allow druids who follow gods to use the favored weapon of their deity. This doesn'thelp those who are devotees of "nature" rather than a deity, but it may fit your game.

That was my house rule for quite some time. however, I realized one day that Ehlonna (on of the three primary Druid deities in LGG) has both Longsword and Longbow as her favored weapons, which are two of the best.

Currently, my Druid house rule that no restritctions on weapons or armor exist (just like Clerics can use swords and Wizards can use bows). Druids begin play proficient in all simple weapons plus scimitar (due to the number of Druid-only scimitars). For armor, Druids only begin with Shields (remember that anyone can use padded or leather at no penalty). A player could take a level of Fighter if he wanted and run around in full plate and greatsword. IMO, he would look just as dumb as a Wizard or Bard doing the same.
 

I allow druids to use most of the weapons. I think that a bow is much more natural than a scimitar (actually I don't see why the druids whould use a scimitar: there is nothing natural in a scimitar, I think).
Of couse if a druid decides to use a heavy flail probably he will notice that he is "less attuned with nature" using such a weapon. But I think there is really nothing wrong in a shortsword or a falchion.
I changed the elven proficiencies removing rapier, because it's an unusual weapon in the places where elves live, and longsword because I think that an ordinary non warrior elf should be trained in the shortsword and not in the long one.
Druids have similar proficiencies (quarterstaff, dagger, sickle, short sword, hand and thrown axe, falchion, maybe the longsword, all bows but not x-bows, sling). I'll change the magical druidic scimitars in magical shortswords or magical falchions.
Still I allow only natural armor (usually leather and a wooden buckler)
 

Where did D&D come up with the idea for Druid's weapon restrictions anyways? It doesn't even closely resemble Druids from mythology and/or history. Of course one could ask why the Ranger gets two weapon fighting too.
 

Thank's for the response everone, now that I see that I'm not the only one on this wave length,how can I get it past my DM?

Should I just point to the elvish text,or could I quote you blokes, especially the one about the FR deities?

One more thing let's say it falls through and I can't use any but the druid weapon's , what combination of feat's would you need to throw twin daggers? Would it be abidexterity/two weapon's or the rapid shot/quick draw?

I might post that one seperatly.
 

You don't need any feats, everyone can do that.

If you want to do it effectively, you would be best advised to aquire Ambidexterity, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, maybe Rapid Shot, maybe Improved Rapid Shot (from Dragon Magazine), maybe Weapon Focus, maybe Far Shot and probably Quick-Draw.

Two-Weapon Fighting only helps with melee combat AFAIK.
