Eliminating Superior Weapons

Would the effects on PC power be too extreme if the bastard sword and rapier were eliminated from the game? Currently, they're so superior that they make any other weapon choice foolish, which is annoying; I'd rather not see players forced towards one path (yeah, it limits you to light/heavy blade feats, but those are perfectly good feats).

Lots of people would disagree. There are all sorts of other builds that favor other weapons. Two-weapon rangers who want to build up to heavier armor are best off with axes, for example. There are lots of powerful fighter builds based on polearms, flails, or hammers. Many rogue builds still do more damage over time with daggers rather than rapiers, since so much of their effectiveness comes from sneak attack rather than weapon damage.

It might be possible to argue that bastard swords and rapiers are still better. Who knows? But even if they are--which, again, is doubtful--there's no way they're so much better as to make other weapon choices foolish. In conclusion, don't worry!

The thing about superior weapons to remember is that one they do require a feat, and two there are several non superior power builds out there.

if this is because of the greatsword blowing it does. The -dagger- is as good of a weapon if not better in some circumstances than it is. The problem isn't superior weapons, but certain weapons being inadequate like the GS.

You could eliminate them, but there's not much reason to, -mechanically- speaking.
