I voted too quickly, before i remembered:

Other: Sithi, as per Tad Williams' Memory Thorn and Sorrow.

I'll echo that one.

I enjoyed the deeper look in to the long life aspects and the notion that their psychology and world views were sufficiently removed from the human characters POVs.

I like the dead ones.

In the past I highly enjoyed the elves from Earthdawn. I believe they were called the Blood Wood elves (let me know if I'm wrong). I always enjoyed the fact they had thorns coming out of them.
You are indeed thinking of the Blood Elves of the Blood Wood. When other peoples in the world retreated into underground citadels, or surrounded their cities with domes of elemental air and fire, the Queen of the Elves of the Wyrm Wood said that they were wrong, and that magic could be wrought into the very fabric of the Wyrm Wood to protect them from the rapacious Horrors of the Scourge.

Part way through the Scourge she was proven wrong as their wards failed. Their (admittedly clever) observation was that Horrors sought to cause pain and feed upon it, but they had no interest in those already in agony from other sources. And so they worked a great ritual to transform themselves and the wood into a place of limitless pain. Each elf's flesh became pierced with the thorns and stems of a plant growing within their flesh. The pain was intolerable for many and they died or went irrevocably insane. But those who survived were no longer of interest to the Horrors - or perhaps they had become as Horrors themselves. Either way the act has divided the elven nation in two, between those who are appalled by their actions, and would undo the travesty of what is now called the Blood Wood; and those who admit that their betters did what they had to do to survive.

Blood Elves are classic elven supremacists with a very nasty twist. There's plenty of story to be had in dealing with these elves.

The only way I like elves is if they're short, stout, pretty lawful, living under mountains, beer-drinking, metal-smithing, bearded, mistrusting of magic, ax- and hammer-favoring, heavily armored, somewhat greedy people. And if they'd rather be called dwarves.

I've always liked the Sidhe, but they aren't very much like D&D elves. The LeShay is a closer match to the Sidhe than an LA+0 Elf.

Other: Nordic Alfar elves.

Seconded! The one and only original form of elf. All others are pale imitations.

However, two worthy contenders missed out are:

5) Runequest elves. Plants. They photosynthesise and sleep all Winter.

6) Discworld elves. Utterly ammoral, a bit like Celtic elves but ten times scarier.

I picked other. The only elves I like are Keebler Elves and Christmas elves. The Keeblers make me yummy cookies, and the Christmas Elves slave away making presents.

I thought the D&D minis were made by slave labor in the PRC?

Thanks,
Rich

This long, and no one's favorite is the Drow?

Come on guys, Drow! The real elves! Spiders, sex, sadism and matriarchy! What's not to like?

Not a big fan of spiders!

:)

Thanks,
Rich
