Anyway, back on topic: I like Faen. I like one race with multiple racial traits. I like voluntary racial transformation.

Tolkien elves are better represented by a mix of aasimar, gray elf and the celestial template, with tons of class levels (at least 10) and effectively immortality (i.e., no aging penalties or maximum age).

I think they're better represented by a planar touchstone with lasting effects (even unto descendents). I think the light of Aman (the trees of Valinor) made them sweet.

I voted D&D, since for a D&D (player) race I think they work best.

I also really like the Cerilian elves, and the Blood Wood elves of Earthdawn. Both the Cerilian and Midnight elves have elemental motifs that don't fit the mechanics well, however, IMO. If I were to run one of these settings, I would change the races.

I don't like the way-too-superior Tolkein elves, or the too-alien-for-me Sidhe and derivatives.

Why? I take the kitchen sink approach. My elves are all of the above.

In my game elves were immortal, and the favoured of the gods. Superior. Arrogant... and they fell. They became cruel, enigmatic. But I also have celtic sidhe fae, and the seelie courts. After their fall, they became the sylvan elves, with various pockets of regionally culturally unique elves. So, if someone wanted to play a wild elf, grey elf, high elf, or something else, I might find a place for it somewhere. If I can shoehorn it in.
