Enough about 4th edition...what will *5th* edition be like?

First Post
Some very interesting reflections and speculations on 4th edition lately, but I think it's time we dusted off the ole crystal ball and discussed what we would like to see in 5th edition.

Any thoughts?

The VR helm will finally have a mountain dew cupholder and tons of geeks everywhere will get sick when they discover that Brandy the warrior babe is really a guy.

I guess that Diaglo will hate it even more than 3.5...

Myself I think it can certainly be better than 4.5 which will be released a few months after 4.0.

In any case, at that time I think I will prefer Castle & Crusades 2.5...

All races will function as classes
The spell list will be greatly diminished as will the monster and magic item list
There will be more saving throws
Skills will be eliminated except for theif skills that will be tied strongly to level
There will be no feats
There will be no prestige classes
The barbarian will dissapear as a class

In short, we will discover that 5th edition D&D is actually the original D&D and that Gygax's children created a wormhole so that their father could "invent" the game and ensuring their family with vast wealth and power! This wormhole has an unexpected side effect however! The fabric of the space-time continum is ripped and the Earth is invaded by demons, robots, and superheroes so we all end up living in a RIFTS like world where mankind's former glory is all but forgotten and the planet lies in eternal peril!

The good news is that while they're back in 1972, Gygax's children kill off Don McLean so we don't ever have to wonder about the lyrics to "American Pie" ever again. So it isn't a total loss.

Well it all depends on how society changes until then.

If gays and homosexuality are more widely accepted expect more colorful prestige classes and spells that are more colorful in name and magic.

Same thing with women... my guess is more women roleplaying means more catering to those clients.

If the world falls back into 19th century mentality... expect new complaints about devil and demons in the MM. :) Maybe you will have one diety of choice only for good and many for evil... but different groups that venerate the true god to chose from.

Another issue is the market. In 20 years how many older gamers will be alive ? If not many expect video game like feats and classes !!!

(edited out due to complaints + added comment on women )

Ummm, moderators...there are undoubtedly people in this group who are conservative and/or religious. Is it appropriate for someone to post a nasty comment like this?

When he's got almost 1500 posts without getting banned, I'd say he knows what he's doing. :)
