I didn't see a thread on this yet, so I thought I'd go ahead and start one. So, what did everyone think of tonight's episode? I thought it was pretty cool to see the inventor of the transporter beam technology, but all in all this was kind of a ho-hum episode.

I dunno about that. Ho-hum is one interpretation, but I'd rather go with "subdued", or "subtle". Didn't exactly start the post-break with a bang, though. I did like the fact that this was a one-shot, and the fellow playing Cochrane [?] was convincing.

I thought it was a pretty good. I was glad that the problem DOESN'T begin on the ship.

Who, Erickson? That wasn't Cochrane, that was Emory Erickson, inventor of the transporter.

Hence the [?] :). I missed the first five minutes, and have not immersed myself in the Trek multi-verse. I knew I had it wrong.

But it was a good episode, even if a tad low-key.

I'll give it a yawn. After the two great 3 episodes arcs, this one juswt left me bored. Least next week we get the "unknown aliens experimenting on the crew" plot ..again....:\

Yeah, the preview for next week looks just plain awful. My daughter's comment about tonight's episode was that it was depressing. I have to tend to agree.

Besides, Cochrane was a white guy. And by this time, I think lost in space (presumed dead), right?

I thought it was a decent storyline, having the inventor of the transporter on board to touch upon the history of the transporter. I was hoping he would have had a debate with the chief of security, though (half expected this), since, IIRC from the first episode, the chief of security had an aversion to using the transporter.

Not a bad episode. I agree the main focus of the show was to establsih Emory Ericson as the inventor of the transporter. But it was a character development episode. Not really a big action pakced episode, but an episode to fill in the season. Next weeks episode is supposed to be another stand alone like this one, and after that will be another mini arc that I'm looking forward to.

Agree that it was a character development episode. Note the bits between T'Pol and Trip, for instance. I thought it was all right overall. Yes, kind of a downer, but reflecting humanity and all that.

On the note of character development, though, did anyone else think that Archer's angry reaction to Trip's protests about the continuation of the tests was a bit much?
