Epic BAB math woes..

Ok,

As far as epic base attack progression goes, I know how to figure it out for a 24th level barbarian. I even know how to figure it out for a 24 HD Umber Hulk. My question is, what about a 24 HD Umber Hulk with 24 levels in Barabarian? What about just 12 and 12?

When determining the point at which the epic Base attack progession starts to apply, do I just not count any racial HD?

That's pretty much how I do it... although, frankly, by the RAW, I'm not sure how it should be done. :\

Well you're right. Only class HD count for counting to see when you start getting Epic BAB, and only if you take classes then.

I'm building a high level "social-based" NPC with racial HD and just started thinking "wow.. that's a good attack bonus for a non-combatant".

But in any case, it should work like this (spoiler tag because my players lurk here somewhere )

[sblock]A 16 HD Efreeti with 20 levels in Bard and 10 levels in a homebrew "courtier" PrC ends up with:
+16 for 16 HD, +15 for 20 levels in Bard, and then +5 since the next ten levels are "epic" for a grand total of +36. Thus a full attack would run +36/+31/+26/+21. [/sblock]
Right?

Not quite. He gets the +3 BAB for the first four class levels (for a total of 20 HD/levels) then gets the Epic progression after that.

Of course, any character of that level is going to be powerful.

Your saying that racial HD do count towards determining when the Epic Base Attack starts... do you, perchance, have a footnote to the RAW for this? Cause I couldn't find one anywhere... hence the question.

Really? The SRD says...

The character’s base attack bonus does not increase after character level reaches 20th. However, the character does receive a cumulative +1 epic bonus on all attacks at every odd-numbered level beyond 20th, as shown on Table: Epic Save and Epic Attack Bonuses. Any time a feat, prestige class, or other rule refers to your base attack bonus (except for gaining additional attacks), use the sum of your base attack bonus and epic attack bonus.

I see nothing in either the attack section or the monster section that implies that racial HD do not count.

Level adjustments don't count, but Racial HD are like Racial levels, so they do count.

Racial HD count against your Character level, LA counts against your ECL for experience.

I'm pretty sure you'd get +18 from 24 abberation hit dice. +20 from the first 20 barbarian levels and +2 from the 4 epic levels.
