Epic Combat Expertise...WTF?

I don't believe you can. With an Int of 3, it can't be an animal, and you can't change its type just by advancing it, so you can't increase its Int to 3.

So, if an animals INT does go over 3 (for whatever reason), what does it then become? Does it aquire the "Augmented" sub-type or does it change from being an animal to being a "magical beast"?

Its funny how threads can drift. In 30 posts, we've managed to get from Epic Combat Expertise to where an animal can put his ability score increases.

They've downgraded a fairly significant number of epic feats. Looks like Epic Combat Expertise is obsolete.

You know, I never quite figured that one out. You're supposed to acquire the traits of your current type (which would mean limited to 2 Int), but retain your mental abilities (which would mean your own Int).

There's a similar contradiction inherent to the Vampire's Alternate Form ability. He retains his own type (Undead, giving him the trait "No Constitution score"), but takes on the Constitution of the dire wolf, say, when he changes. Both can't be simultaneously true.

CustServ, when queried, said the "No Constitution score" takes priority, but didn't show their working.

So, if an animals INT does go over 3 (for whatever reason)...

Epic Combat expertise applies the limited dodge bonus to you and an adjacent creature simultaneously. That is why it is a different feat.

Wasn't there an Improved Combat Expertise feat somewhere, that allowed up to 10 points to be shifted to AC?

So, if you cast fox's cunning on your dog, there's no actual effect?

"No creature with an Intelligence score of 3 or higher can be an animal".

This tells us that "No animal can be a creature with an Intelligence score of 3 or higher".

So when you cast Fox's Cunning on your dog, then either a/ his Intelligence score increases, making him not-an-animal, or b/ he remains an animal, which means his Intelligence score is not 3 or higher.

Fox's Cunning contains no provision for a change in type; I'm inclined to rule that no such change in type occurs.
