Wow, some real imagination went into these. Check out the Force of Nature's "Environment Shape" at 30th level!

A couple tropes missing from this article (maybe we'll see them Friday)...
* "Legacy Hero", who bequeaths their wisdom and talent to a worthy heir, perhaps a child (the next PC?).
* "Living Legend", at the moment of their glorious death, the hero becomes a story which, when told, empowers those who hear it with some of the hero's essence.
* "Otherworldy Sojourner", the hero goes on to a blessed realm of immortal beings (though not an afterlife) as reward for their arduous quest.
* "Immortal Archmage", wizard hero unlocks secret of immortality and amasses untold arcane power, going on to fuse with the magic permeating the world.
* "Swindler of Death", who cons the Raven Queen and cannot be taken to the underworld for punishment, gaining time to complete a critical quest before the Raven Queen catches up with him.

Any other ideas?

I believe so since that is an excerpt and this is a Dragon article. Still, its some interesting 3.5e content.
Interesting...

but perhaps moreso if it were April 28, 2007 or 2006 or 2005... :D

And seeing as this isn't a 4e topic, I expect it'll be moved in General soon.

The incorporation of these principles and ideas would have made the Epic Level Handbook about a zillion times better.

Cheers, LT.
Hell yeah! My players were approaching epic levels in 3.5 but it just seemed 'same as it ever was' with epic stuck in front of it. This would have made it sooo much better.
Eterrnal Hero FTW!

The worst part of the entire thing is WoTC already produced the perfect supplement for Epic gaming and they've totally forgotten about it. Hell it's author hangs around on these boards too. The Primal Order is what the 3e ELH and Deities & Demigods should have been all rolled into one. I've never seen a better resource for the purpose anywhere! Hopefully as 4e expands they'll do an ELH or DDG based on that work.
