Epic Spells for a Demon Prince

I've just noticed something- is it legal for secondary casters to take backlash? None of the example spells work that way. Although secondary casters can pay XP - there are lots of examples of that.

But without secondary backlash, the second suite of spells is a lot more difficult. The effects will have to be toned down, and the costs have to be increased (higher level spell slots, probably more xp).

Does it matter? The spells you have designed are based on Sep's house rules (and your own) when it comes to Epic spells. Since Sep has allowed secondary casters to take backlash damage in his game already (probably the same group of secondary casters with a few exceptions that would cast your second suite of spells) that shouldn't be much of an issue.

Hum, I still wouldn't let you ward out epic level spells- that's too much of a blanket protection. But I would let you put down a ward that required an opposed check of some kind for epic-level magic to penetrate.

Epic spells are an interesting thing to look at- I've been playing with the system a lot for the first time lately, checking out things and tinkering with epic spells both for the game I run (which has reached epic levels after many years) and the epic game I'm playing in (in which my character has epic spellcasting but, as yet, no epic spells...) I'm looking forward to developing a bunch of new epic spells, but so far it's hard to grasp the full potential. Every few days I see a new potential for mind-boggling levels of abuse, but is it abuse or is it mere functionality?? :] :uhoh:

Love it, still learnin' it.

One thing I've been doing is making a list of all the ad hoc adjustments I can find, and keeping a list of the ones I'm applying to the epic spells I've been developing. It's an interesting project- it helps weight future ad hoc adjustments. I like it. :)
