Episode III reviews trickling in

Personally, I think it's a little interesting, considering Lucas' problems with the Hollywood machine, that Sidious' Seperatist pawns in the prequels are a collection of guilds and trade unions.

Demiurge out.

 Good catch!

Star Wars draws upon history but that's alright with me as long it isn't a too blatant commentary on current events. Mostly, to me, Lucas draws from the common cauldron of stories and does so in a neat and interesting manner. There are lessons to be learned from watching the movies. Particulary if you are a teenager.

I agree, i also thought it was a Nazi paralellism. And the fact that Hitler dabbled in the dark arts sounds a little like, oh, i don't know, maybe...EMPEROR PALPATINE?????
I also always thought the idea of Palpatine and Co. killing all the Jedi was rather odd as Jedi sounds to me rather similar to Juden, which is the German word for Jew...

A minor quibble, though -- many of the reviewers are quite eager to assign political agendas to some rather generic-sounding lines of dialogue. :\
I've been anticipating this since I saw that shot of smoke rising from a skyline in the commercial - too reminiscent of 9/11 for someone not to say something. Not that I think that was what Lucas was going for. :\

Empire is by far my favorite, and New Hope and Jedi were pretty close in enjoyment in my book. I'm REALLY hoping that Sith can top Jedi as it won't have stupid ewoks. And for the love of all things holy i hope Jar Jar doesn't even have a cameo. I want all memory of that character wiped from my brain cells.

While I doubt the movie is a Political Diatribe directed at a single politician, I am not surprised people find political correlaries to today, I believe they are supposed to.

The OT had a very simple morale dichotomy:
Empire/soul less technology = bad
Rebellion/ noble spirit= good

The PT has nothing that simple. The Grand Ole Republic is shown to be a massive behemoth of a Democracy, that often seems ineffectual.

The Jedi Order, the vaunted thing that Luke and all of us wanted to become, is less an order of Enlightentment and Well Being that we have always thought, but a rigid order, lacking flexibility.

One of the underlying themes of the PT is what happens when once good institutions become ineffectual.
