Eric at GenCon -- the Special Collector's Edition Thread

This Gen Con was my first one and I have to say that I will make every effort to be there next year. It was great to meet and hang out with a lot of people here. My personal con highlights:

Finding every product I wanted to buy and finding out that almost all Classic Battletech miniatures will finally be remade.

Got to talk to R.A. Salvatore for a little bit, very nice guy.

Monte Cook's game writing seminar was really informative and helpful.

The ENies were great and I took a ton of pictures, but haven't had time to look at them yet. Congratulations to all the winners!

The EN World Gathering was great, nice to finally put names to screen names. Going to hang out with people at the Velvet room after was lots of fun too.

Waking up at 6:30 Saturday morning, after being up late the night before, just to make sure I could get into Piratecat's Cthulhu game. It turned out that the table was all EN Worlders/Nutkinlanders: Nemmerle, Dinkledog, Halma, Doctor Doom, and one other guy who's name is escaping my sleep deprived brain at the time. Everyone was fantastic, that game is definatly one of the gaming highlights of my life.

Running two slots of RPGA adventures was lots of fun (even if I was a little soft on the new characters). Thanks to any of my players who happen to hang out here for making it a great time.

I did manage to see R&R2, it looks great. Monte Cook's "Requiem for a God" also looked quite interesting.

Ok I've rambled long enough. It was a great time, and everyone should go next year.

Andy, you're my hero for getting up that early! Damn, that game was fun, and it was nice to finally game with you. That's one of my favorite moments from the whole con.

It's Barcode you're forgetting; he's the guy who beat me in the first RPGA tournament I ever played, 11 years ago. :D

Andy, you're my hero for getting up that early!

If I had the opportunity to play games every day I would happily get up at 6:30 every morning (gamer understatement of the year)! Though I'm sure there were people who were much more sleep deprived than I that were wandering around gaming that morning. Thank goodness I didn't partake of more of those free drink tickets they were handing out at the Velvet Room the night before.

I wanted to play in the Cthulu game, but just couldn't get up early. I go to bed and wake up early every day, so when I have an opportunity to stay out late and sleep in it's hard to give it up!

Gen Con was a blast!!

I ran into several old friends I had not seen in a while, and had fun in my events. At one table, no one hadb been gaming for less than 10 years!

The Ennies and the EN World Gathering were fun. TYhanks to everyone who showed up! I wish I could have talked to more people and went to the party with Eric and Morrus. (Unfortunately, I had to track friends down for a lift to my hotel. Hopefully, this will not be a problem next year in Indianapolis.)

I picked up Nyambe, Wild Spellcraft, Necropolis, and many other wonderful books. I also got autrographs from Chris Dolunt, author Nyambe, as well as Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

There are a few things I will miss about Milwaukee. However, I think the last Gen Con in Milwaukee (at least for a while) was a good one.

WOW! thats about the best word i can come up with to describe my first Gen Con. I got to meet some really great people, play a couple top notch games and spend way too much money.

Everyone from the boards i got to meet was great. Claudio Pozas, was really cool i talked with him and the FDP guys for quite a bit about psionics, Claudio's artwork, and a bunch of other stuff. I have to say Claudio's about one of the nicest guys you could meet and i got him to whip up a really cool sketch of a centaur paladin.:D At the Ennies i got to meet Eric, which was excellant, he also a great guy. Very approchable and easy to talk to, just an all around nice guy. Mark caught me by surprise after the awards, and found out that i can be a bit slow on the uptake sometimes. I got to play in his taking of Giants reach the next day and found him to be a great DM, even with a blown out voice! I wish i had caught Morrus but he was pretty swamped. I did however catch Monte at home, Negitive Zero, William Ronald, Ranger Wickett, and a few others. I almost got to meet Piratecat, when my good friend Dareoon Dalandrove stopped by to say hello, DD had played in the EN Boston Feng Shui game at P.cats house, but he was pretty swamped too.

Some of the other high points for me included a great game of Spycraft run by the rather talented Patrick Kapera, he was a damn good GM, and lots of fun was had. I also got to meet Margret Weis, Tracy Hickman, Gary Gygax, and Chris Pramas.

Over the only things i wish i had done were, sign up for more games( i found it almost impossible to find random people "Just gaming" and getting into games with generics did really work to well for me.), Meet more En Worlders( including Morus and Piratecat.), and meet more industry people( i really wanted to meet Eric Mona, for one but i kept missing him at the WOTC castle). I'll have to work on those for next year!

I also got a bunch of pics i'll try to post when i get the developed. I'm sure some of the ones of Eric will be very entertaining.

:p

NEW FRIENDS

I found meeting you was like getting together with an old friend. If going to Gencon had been nothing more than hanging with you, it would have still been worth every moment, brother. :)

I am unbelievably bummed about how much of GenCon I missed.

It was for an unavoidable and unquestionably good reason, but still I am left feeling like I just missed the prom. I'm all teary eyed and weepy like a big nancy.

For those of you that I met in my brief stay, it was good to see you and I hope I wasn't too rude; for those that I promised to meet and couldn't make it, I apologize-- next year in Indy you will have me as a captive audience!
