Essentials multiclassing

How do we think it's going to work? Can a slayer multiclass power swap out a stance at 7th level and instead get an encounter power? Will there be any way for a thief to learn a daily wizard spell?

Can I get a hybrid beastmaster ranger and sentinel druid so I can have two pets?

A warforged bard who multiclasses into warden, warlock, warlord, and warpriest?

I think, for the slayer/knight/scout/hexblade/thief, you could probably swap out a use of Power Strike or Backstab (or the equivalent hexblade power) for an encounter power.

I'm not sure what would count as a daily power equivalent for the classes without daily powers. Basically, it is the martial classes (slayer, knight, scout, hunter) that really shatter the original 4e power structure.

At this moment there is no rules to cover Essentials builds (sub-classes) for Hybrid rules, and there is no rules to let a slayer gain encounter or daily attack powers via multiclasssing.

Let's see how the upcoming Class Compendium will handle them ... or not.

I dont expect to see multi-classing or hybrid rules for any of the essentials classes.

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Class Compendium: Heroes of Sword and Spell provides new character options for Dungeons & Dragons® Essentials players who are ready to move beyond the two player-oriented D&D™ Essentials books, Heroes of the Fallen Lands and Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms.

This book gathers five classes from the Player’s Handbook—the cleric, the fighter, the rogue, the warlord, and the wizard—and presents them in the new D&D Essentials class format introduced in Heroes of the Fallen Lands, with rules updates and errata. It features rules that allow D&D Essentials characters to select non-D&D Essentials powers, and it grants non-D&D Essentials characters access to class features from Heroes of the Fallen Lands and Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms. In addition, this book presents feats, rituals, and rules for multiclassing.

The multiclassing rules may apply only to the 5 classes/builds in the book, but it may also apply to Essentials classes given that they are also putting in the ability for non-Essentials classes to swap for Essentials features (and vice versa).
