Even Newer(er) Tavern Thread: The Hanged Man

Although he had only been in the Hanged Man for a short while, he wasn't anywhere near done to venting his frustration with the bandits who had got in his way over at the d'Argent manor, and blasting some bugs might not be a bad thing.

"Just gold?" he queried the two kobolds. "I prefer items of a magical nature as rewards for my services, but I suppose gold will do. What kind of bugs are we talking about here, and how many of them are there? Also, I need this guy here to read my tome for a few minutes before I come along with you...but so help me if you don't make this worth my while...I'll let It take over...and believe me when I say that there won't be much village left for saving if that happens..."

As Malakai says It, his eyes flare molten red and slowly fade back to their normal color.
Both kobolds cringe at Malakai's words. Tak responds, "You hurt village?!" She looks at her companion and whispers, "Deemus, say something!"
The male kobold nods and then says to Malakai, "You... uh... TOO strong! Yes, not fair on bugs. Don't need." He waves his hand at the sorcerer to dismiss him.

The bug-armored warlock raises his head and speaks resonant language of dragons languidly.
[sblock=Draconic]
"My, my, scary aren't he."
[/sblock]
Changing to common:
"I would like to come and see if that's some new kind of bug. If not, I'm not really interested in money."
Dina looks at kobolds, but somehow wasn't sure if bug killing was the best use of her talents.

The deva replies in Draconic that is technically perfect, but lacks the natural fluidity of a native or even a practiced speaker.

[sblock=Draconic]Tell me. What sort of bugs is it that has you scared?[/sblock]
Deemus answers in both Common and Draconic. "Many legs! Long body."
[sblock=Draconic]"They're giant centipedes. They're huge - maybe as big as you are."[/sblock]

The twig thin boy kicks off from the bar, to approach the pair of twitchy kobolds. "I have found that bugs are best killed from a good distance. And as the ladies are never found of the many-legged vermin, its always a good idea to rid the world of as many of them as possible. Nicodemus Firegazer at your service." He gives a deferential nod as he obsessively, if unconsciously, twirls the bit of copper piping between his fingers.
Tak responds cheerfully to Nicodemus. "Yes, very great! But cave is not big space. Get close to bugs to kill."

OOC: Okay, here's the roster so far:
new character, level 1 (neil1889)
nicodemus, 1 warlock (vertexx69)
lenyara, 4 scout (pathfinderq1)

I know there are a couple of level 6 characters looking for work as well, but I'm not sure if having level 1 and 6 characters together would work very well. I'll keep the recruiting open for a few more days to see if any more lower level characters show up.

"He says that"
"They're giant centipedes. They're huge - maybe as big as you are."
"which of course means normal giant centipede, shouldn't be a problem. Since they are capable of passing through very low tunnels, prepare some digging tools in case their nest is inaccessible for the creatures our size.

I won't be going. Good luck, master Deathbeard."

Martelai turns to Sheng:
"Would you care for some help? I have good knowledge of other realms. I don't mean to intrude, feel free to decline, of course. You said you're arcane scholar. Sharing of knowledge may benefit us both. My name is Martelai Luinil, head of Bacarte office of Institute of Arcane Ciphers."

"What manner of fool would I be if I rejected help offered so disinterestedly?" Sheng says. "However, this piece belongs to the honourable Malakai." He points to Malakai. "I would be bypassing his authority if I allow you to contribute. Please honourable friend, speak with him first."

"Thank you, Martelai. You have been most kind. Should I be deemed worthy of the voyage, I shall make an effort to help you as best I can upon my return." Flervin makes a slight bowing gesture as best he can.

He finishes his task he had promised to Lilli. Beaming with pride, and presents it to her. "I hope this shall assist in shedding some light on our Hieroglyphs, friend. I have been listening to these conversations, and feel I should attempt to join in the adventure as well. "

Flervin turns to face the Kobolds. "If you see fit, and nature allows, I would be interested in taking on this adventure."

OOC: Flervin is a level 1 Dwarf Druid. He has not had any approvals, though he is listed on the Approval request. I will leave the decision up to you, but fully understand if you would choose not to allow him to participate in the adventure as per the forum rules.

Lilli takes the hieroglyphics from Flervin graciously and eventually reciprocates with some pages of key Dwarven runes, along with a key to their meanings.

Flervin is elated to be able to learn something new. He bows to Lilli and thanks her for allowing him the chance to better himself, and expand his knowledge of the world around him.

OOC: I've started work on Labraundos, a Virtuous Paladin of Joven. He's a former temple guardian (reskinned Sohei theme) from a remote and mountainous island. He likes axes and labyrinths.

Flervin pulls out a medium sized book from his bag, orders another beer, and sits down to peruse the tome's contents.

The book appears to be bound in brown leather, with slight indents making the surface resemble tree bark. Adorning the front cover is a single inlaid gold leaf. Some of the gold has fallen out, as this book appears well used. The spine is lighter in hue than the rest of the cover, indicating great use. The pages are well worn with the occasional dog-eared page at various locations. Not every page is the same size, and they almost appear to have been cut without the use of precision machinery.

In silence, the dwarf reads the book he had read countless times before as if it were his first time ever seeing the information held within its pages.

OOC: I'd be happy to take Flervin along. He only needs approval to receive xp; he can still adventure in the meantime.
Is Labraundos ready to go?

Edit: Sorry for the delay by the way.
