I haven't heard of any locally advertised WEG games in years. I see lots of SW advertised.

The "disappointment" seemed to me to come from the "D20 is coming and the sky is falling" and the "hate the new guy with the license" crowd. I see lots of people who actually play SW d20 who profess they like it.

One should not tune their ear to only those they are sympathetic towards.
If more WEG is going on, I can say that it's almost undoubtedly because of nostalgia, not D20 hate. I loved D6 Star Wars, but I don't think I'd want to go back for more than a one- or two-shot. Gen Con provides just such an opportunity with no strings attached.

I see that there is no women in gaming SEM this year... that makes me sad - was my favorite part of GenCon last year.

I saw a couple of female-related seminars, though. You might consider those.

As an aside, I saw some female DM running a game where all the players play Princesses. Maybe Teflon Billy should sign up. :)

I was thinking specifically of the Women in Gaming SEM. It is usually a "regular" SEM. This year there are a couple of "how to build female characters" and history-y SEMs that have women as a subject focus... but no SEM specifically for women (and men) to sit and talk about their experiences with women in the game...

Last year's SEM was enlightening and entertaining and I made some really good friends.... it's sad to learn that it's not on the roster for this year... but, I suppose, maybe it'll be added.

Odd mix of stuff this year, but I still found about 60 things to sign up for on the first pass. Now, to whittle down the list and juggle the schedule.

Looking forward to:
Original Crimson Skies boardgame. (Hoping to find a copy of my own too.)
Shadowrun
7th Sea (roll&keep rules)
Spycraft
Historical naval miniatures -- WWII, WWI, and Napoleonic sea battles for the grognard in me!
T20 Traveller (Kemp rocks!)
D20 Modern
Doom, the boardgame (I haven't played this yet, but I'm told it's Space Hulk, only better.)
True Dungeon. Skipped this last time to my great regret.

Disappointments:
No Alternity. A bummer, though partly my fault. Had considered running a game, but chickened out. (I was too afraid of being scheduled in a slot that would prevent me from playing something else. May have to arrange a pickup game.)
No Skull and Bones. I had expected to see at least a Green Ronin demo game here.
No Runequest. Another classic I still have cravings for.

It's pretty cool and a lot of fun. (Says the guy with some experience and luck designing boardgames inspired by the FPS genre . . . )

Yes, I forgot to mention FRAG! :o

I'm excited about the Cartoon Frag sessions. I'd love to see a battle between PvP and KODT, but I'm guessing that's not what she has in mind....:D

Phil, do you know anything about those sessions, or the FRAG tourney?

I've played SW since WEG was released.

I've played SWd20 with the same group that played WEG version.

WEG won. We converted back.

It had nothing to do with the quality of the material - nothing to do with "hate-clubs" and nothing to do with anti-WotC sentiments or otherwise.

D20 just does not lend itself to the space opera genre. We found that the tactical combat schemes with maps, cover and the like totally ruined the grand story-telling aspects that we all love about SW in the first place.

The WEG system just handles it better and doesn't get in the way of the story.

As for GenCon - Sparks has run tons of WEG SW for years. Can't say all have been quality, but it is d6 system. As for Living Force, I am just sorry I don't have that much time to play everything I may want to.....hopefully one SW session will make it into the mix!

Absolutely nothing. Since I quit SJGames last year I have no input at all on Frag. I still receive royalty checks but that ends my involvement with the game.

I haven't read over all the events. Did they say who is the guest of honor?

I'm planning on playing RPGA stuff, Bablyon d20, Dark Champions and the LOTR rpg.
