Deep within the bowels of the earth in the illithid city of Oryndll, the mind flayers have bred and cultivated guardians of awesome destructive power to compensate for their lack of physical prowess. Trogdor is the culmination of their breeding programs, raised and mind manipulated over the decades and equipped to deal with any threat to the city with the utmost fanaticism and loyalty. He would be used almost as a last resort against invaders to the city. Rarely (and fortunately) do the illithid bring him topside as such a 'force of nature' would have to be readily dealt with if the forces of good had a clue about his (or possible others like him!) existence.
In combat, Trogdor will attempt to initially stun his opponents with a massive thunderclap and then close in melee where he quickly reduces oppostion to pulp. Against flying oppoents or those cowardly spellcasters who stay away, Trogdor will throw his massive hammers knowing that they will return before his next attack.
Always, an illithid stablemaster will be nearby, invisible or ethereal, to maintain control and guard against any attempts to wrest control of Trogdor from them (i.e. acting as a passive combatant ready to counterspell/power any such attempts). In the city, the massive behemoth will likely be mindlinked to the elder brain or ultra-illithid in charge of the city's defense ( and woe to the lowly PC psion who makes such an attempt!)
