Expert tactician

1. The feat expert tactician says you can make an extra attack against an opponent that is denied his dex bonus. But it dosent say how long it takes, for instance, can the person charge, do that attack then get their expert tactician attack? I say no, cause of the whole moving and attacking rules. Most feats state that you must use full attack action in order to use the feat, but this one dosent.

2. Our rogue, was in the middle of a wizard who had 5 mirror images up. The wizard went to cast a spell, the rogue has combat reflexes, could he make attacks of opportunity on all images that were within his range?

thanks in advance

If, at any point during a turn, a creature within reach has been denied their dexterity bonus to AC, a character with expert tactician may make an AoO on that creature. Note that this feat is not in any 3.5 books. it would have been an excellent choice for the complete warrior. Many people consider this evidence that Wizards thinks that the feat is too strong. I personally have house ruled that it works only when a full attack action is being taken (if you take a full attack action and there is a foe that has been denied their dex to AC within reach, you may make an attack on him with full BAB).

A good question that is not covered specifically in the books. Logic would indicate that each image would be provoking an AoO, but that is a slippery slope. If a character that has mirror image up has a supernatural gaze attack, does a target of the gaze attack need to make a saving throw for each image as well as the real character? To keep things simple, I prefer to treat a character with mirror image up as any other creature, except there is a chance that any attack aimed at the creature will miss. In other words, I ignore the mirror image spell except when something targets the caster and then I treat it as if the images created a miss chance that decreases on every miss.

This is how I rule it, but the rules are unclear. You should feel free to rule it any way that you desire until WotC releases more details.

Not an AoO; an extra attack.

yada yada yada

I'm the rogue in question here. Goose, I posted an Expert Tactician question already (I just forgot to talk to you about it at work). You can view my post, and other's replies, here ( http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=72497 ). It is currently on the 2nd page.

That being said:

I think I should be able take an AoO on each image. Each image is independant of each other in terms of targeting. You don't target the caster and randomly hit an image, you target a particular image and then see what happens. How would the following scenerio go down? (no matter how unlikely it is that it would ever happen)

[] = unoccuppied space
W = wizard
R = Me, rogue (with combat reflexes)

[][][][][]
W[]W[][]
[]R.W[][]
W[][][][]

Now each of the wizards are seperate individuals exept they are quadrupalets and look exactly the same. Each wizard holds their inititive to cast the exact same spell at the exact same time. Would I, as the rogue with combat reflexes, get an AoO on each wizard?

First, each image must be within 5 feet of another image or the caster, so your setup is not possible according to the RAW.

Second, each image acts simultaneously. You cannot make simultaneous attacks of opportunity, even with combat reflexes. The caster with all his images provokes an AoO and you must choose which image to attack. You do not get 4 attacks of opportunity for one action that provokes the AoO.

This is not how Mirror Image works. The images are not separate individuals with differant initiatives from the caster. Nor can they cast differant spells, or any spells at all. They mimic the caster and that is all.

Also, you cannot use the Ready action to hold your action to go simultaneously with someone else's action. Ready allows you to interrupt a specified action and go before it, not at the same time. So there would be no way for 4 actual wizards to act simultaneously. So each would act in their turn and you could get an AoO on each if they provoked one.

And who asked you to crrect my errors? Hmmmmm? Was it, perhaps, SATAN?

Yes, Hypersnuff Film is correct, it is an extra attack, not an AoO, though it should probably be an AoO to keep it in balance, IMHO.

I guess they don't have SNL reruns in New Zealand. :)

Saturday Night Live is a long running skit comedy show in America, one of the more popular characters about 5 years or so ago was "The Church Lady" who implied that SATAN was influencing everything or everyone she didn't like.

Bingo.

Of course, if you don't know this, you spend entirely too much time on these boards. :)
