Magic

Zone of the Enders

Dead or Alive 3

BESM in the Petoskeyverse (A "generic" anime setting set in Petoskey, Japan... which used to be located in Michigan... don't ask, it was a freek magical accident... where basicly all of the "cliches" of anime can and do happen often... ninjas, super powers, mecha, martial artists, etc etc. Think Ranma, Tenchi, Full Metal Panic, Hellsing, Urusai Yatsura, Kenshin, etc... all thrown in together in an american down displaced magicly to japan).

Go/Chess/Monopoly

Sometimes we just watch Anime, depending on the particular makeup of the group that day.

Board games of choice for my friends and family are:

Starfarers of Catan (or the earlier versions)
Trivial Pursuit
Scrabble
Advanced Civilization (when we have 12 or so hours to spare)
Ben-Hurt
Pictionary

Cards games:

Apples to Apples
Lord of the Fries
Kill Doctor Lucky

Actually, I've yet to run into anything from Cheapass Games that wasn't a blast.

Depending on how much time we have to waste
from the shortest to the longest...

Lunch Money
Chez Geek
Bughouse Chess
Nuclear War!!!!
Risk
Axis & Allies
Talisman

Don't get to play as many games as I used too, but some favorites:

Axis and Allies
Risk 2210 AD (only played a couple times, but very cool)
Titan
Scrabble
Masterpiece

A really cool game I have is called Once Upon a Time. You get a number of story cards and a single Happy Ending card. Each story card has a classic fairy tale element, like Prince, Evil Witch, Betrayal, etc. To play you tell a fairy tale. Each time you mention an element that matches a card, you play a card. The plan is to get the story to end with your Happy Ending. It's a pretty cool RPG-lite.

PS

Filler games...

My group's favorite filler game went from Guillotine to Munchkin and is now Carcassonne. Its a beautiful and fast tile-placing game which is easy to learn while retaining quite a bit of depth.

We also play Settlers/Seafarers/Starfarers of Catan, Apples to Apples, Medici, Mama Mia, Ebola Monkey Hunt, Princes of Florence, Talisman, and I"m sure many more that I can't remember at the moment.

My favorite site to peruse and purchase games from is:
http://kumquat.com/cgi-kumquat/funagain/home

At Origins this year I'm going to try to get into the "Kobolds Ate My Baby" Midnight Massacre. I've heard it is fun, fun, fun.
