Anyone every play Mob War? Fun and fast!

I have been intending for a while to buy some Cheapass games. Everybody always seems to say great things about them. Which particular ones should I get?

With the right four be play bridge (ok, not exactly beer and pretzels).

Without it we've been playing "Hack!" (the KoDT card game) and Mage Knight Dungeon.

The interesting thing about this thread is that truly few Beer and Pretzel type games have been mentioned......

the classics are of course Axis and Allies, Risk, Shogun, Fortress America, Twilight Imperium, History of the World (All but Risk are good - however the arbitraty nature of Fortress America irritated me)

Other Games of interests - that are not in the Beer and Pretzel genre - but fall into the "German" Game catagory

Carcassone (an amazing game - my wife and I play a couple of times a week)
Union Pacific
Illuminati (not NWO)
Tigris & Euphrates
Bean Farmer (out of print, but a clever Card Trading/Bidding Game)
Alladin's Dragons
Dune (takes a loooong time)
(Just about anything from riogrande games www.riograndegames.com)

Less Beer and Pretzel - American Megafauna - a simulation of the Triassic to the Presen
Victory
World in Flames (actually I play this one solo since it takes so !!@#!@#%@##$ long to play)

I could go on - I have a friend that has over 60 games of this ilk - so are really good - some well not good.

One final note - I really did not like Kill Dr. Lucky - interesting premise, but it felt like Clue to me.....

A really cool game I have is called Once Upon a Time. You get a number of story cards and a single Happy Ending card. Each story card has a classic fairy tale element, like Prince, Evil Witch, Betrayal, etc. To play you tell a fairy tale. Each time you mention an element that matches a card, you play a card. The plan is to get the story to end with your Happy Ending. It's a pretty cool RPG-lite.

Once Upon a Time is one of my all-time favorites. I've also had "lite" gaming fun with Quests of the Round Table, Honor of the Samurai, and Cranium. I love the clay-sculpting challenges in Cranium.

Board games of choice for my friends and family are:

Starfarers of Catan (or the earlier versions)
Trivial Pursuit
Scrabble
Advanced Civilization (when we have 12 or so hours to spare)
Ben-Hurt
Pictionary

Advanced Civ is the best pizza and beer game ever. I can't believe that madriel was the only one to mention it. And 12 hours? Sure it's long but we never take more than half that...

Oh, and I heard Starfarers was dreadful (at least compared to Cities and Knights).

Axis & Allies

Axis & Allies: Europe (an improvement over traditional A&A!)

Shogun (aka Samurai Swords, by the A&A team and superior in every way to A&A, as it is a random set-up every game, so its always fresh. I bid three koku to hire the ninja!)
