Just wanted to get a feel for advanced classes that a lot of folks seemed to be pleased with.

If you'd like, please explain why a class is your favorite.

I selected Investigator because its exemplary of how to come up with an AdC that can use skills in some new and interesting ways. Too many non-combat AdC's just hand out skill bonuses, which result in guaranteed successes, which make for boring characters.

I can't pick just one. I love the Martial Artist and Investigator. I currently have a character based off Cordell 'Washo' Walker, from Walker, Texas Ranger.

I'm unoriginally in for the Negotiator as well, but it was close for me between that and the Soldier. Any character I'm likely to play for my own enjoyment likely has levels in one or the other -- the Negotiator for pretty much every one of his class abilities, and the Soldier for good hit points, decent attack and defense, and the power to put somebody on the ground hard and fast.

Surprised to see so little love for the Soldier here. He ain't flashy, but come on -- look at the damage! You need somebody to put something on the ground, that's the Soldier, plain and simple. An old campaign's loose-cannon police officer, a Fast4/Soldier2, was pretty much my fight-breaker. I'd lovingly craft bad guys to ambush the party in the dark warehouse, and he'd turn, Double-Tap with his Desert Eagle, and down would go the bad guys.

Enh. I like classes that aren't strictly about combat.
Of course, I also like some classes that ARE mainly about combat...
I just like whatever class fits the character.
But I think of the core Advanced Classes Field Scientist is the one for me.
I like a character class that is about building things, creating new stuff, using his brains.
It was close between that one and bodyguard, though, because my other iconic modern character is all about protecting his friends.

I'm a little surprised to see no love whatsoever for the daredevil. Granted, the BAB is too low for someone who should be a bit more rough-and-tumble, but the hit die and the defense bonuses together make for one tough nut to crack. And I like characters that remind folks that a good action scene--one that really keeps you on the edge of your seat--should be as much about executing outrageous stunts as it should be about attack and damage rolls.

OTOH, I'm quite surprised to see folks voting for the infiltrator. Reading through that class, I get the distinct impression that whoever designed it was short on ideas. It's sort of the antithesis of what I said previously about the investigator. It does nothing particularly innovative or distinctive, and instead just co-opts some D&D rogue specials (improved evasion and skill mastery) along a with a bonus to Spot checks. In a word: perfunctory.
