So it's almost like dwarves are the male ideal, elves are the female ideal, and hobbits are... .... well, let's not go into that. ;)

Greedy alcoholics and social cripples who are of short stature and like hairy women?

Either I'm an exceptional case or you need to get your priorities straight.

And that's what's really wrong with the United States! :p

Lots of alcohol is never a problem!

Oh, my group has the weirdest humans, which freak out the "token sane non-humans."

I went with dwarves, but for a different reason. It wasn't because they were heavy-drinkin', axe-swingin', chant-singin' lunatics, but because of their lawful alignment. Their family loyalties. Their sense of duty, love of hard work, and their idea of a strong work ethic. I also like how that juxtaposes with their inherent greed.

That, to me, fits the type of character I love.

That being said, my favourite PC ever was a halfling fighter that acted a lot like Samwise Gamgee (who I consider to be more dwarfish than hobbittish, in many ways).

Not a fan of elves, since their flightiness and aloof attitude just don't mesh well with how I play.

Oh, I imagine you'd get lad more frequently than that, if you wanted some.

I'm sorry, this cracked me up.

It still cracks me up.

I gotta second the tiefling - a humanoid struggling against the imperfections of its birth, and outcast for no other reason than what he is. That's something I can identify with.

And his propensity for pain and murder. Why are people so prejudiced against supernatural monstrosities with an aptitude for violence?
