Favorite magical item

I must admit that I always liked the "out of the ordinary" magic items not found in the source books per se but that were periodically in the modules. The one that comes to mind most immediately is that nice staff with the blue dragon head in the cavern level underneath the castle atop Bone Hill in module L2. I really liked that one. The specialized items in module U3 - like the Greater Staff of Shock - are other examples.

But standard stuff? I also liked the Wand of Wonder, although the Rings of Elemental Control were also favorites. One of my characters was able to get a hold of TWO of them - of air and of fire. :)

Portable Hole, but only because I'm a pack-rat!

There was a article in Dragon (221?) about the many uses of the portable hole. Using that, I have seen players who turned one into a field hospital, alchemical lab, and monster cage (all requiring air making magic). And it gets my vote as well.

Rod/Wand of Wonder for sure, although the fighting mug from Dragon Compendium 1 -- beat the crap out of people in bar fights without ever spilling a drop -- comes close.

I always like to break out a Deck of Many Things every so often. Player are always too eager to see if they can get some of the beneficial rewards. They usually end up with the short end of the stich, though!!!

Deck of Many Things + Wild Mage = glorious, glorious abuse.

Another vote here for the Wand of Wonder/Deck of Many Things combo.

The Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity was also good for a chuckle from time to time.

But if you really want to waste your players' time, give them a Murlynd's Spoon or a Football (the latter is a little-known device that follows you around and tells you how far you have walked). For maximum effect, you should ensure that the player receives nothing else whatsoever until they are at least 8th level... :D
