You do realize that in a way that is kind of the point, right?
Iconic in the whole first mental image when you think about a member of X class sort of way.
First thing you think about when you think of the barbarian class - big muscley dude with a giant axe. D&D cleric? Pious , semi-serious lookin' brother with some metal armor, a mace, and a holy symbol. Bard? Goofy lookin' fruitcake with a lute.
iconic is unimaginative? I am afraid I don't understand?
I would think the point of the wtc characters would be invigorate the imagination or if not the imagination, to energize me about d&d. the early wtc artwork really makes me sick. I'm afraid I have little love for the artwork in the phb and for the dm 3.5 screen.
My words were crude and i should not have have stated them the way I did. But the iconic figures of d&d really really don't do it for me. I really am not filled with a sense of aw and wonder. They dont have a strong sense of style or dzn. they lack strong color or unified color. Really everything about them I lothe and wonder how they made it past pre production.
I could give a character by character picture by picture createq if anyone really cared.
anyway sorry for jacking the thread. I was out of place.
I think it would take a whole new thread to explain my view in more detail so i won't bog down this one any further. Oh i picked Vadania if anyone coulden't tell. Liddia is ok too. Mialee though makes my taste of art cringe.
I really think Devis hurt his popularity after doing that photo spread in Sex Adventurer magazine. A very risky move that didn't pay off like he'd hoped.
