Feat Question...

Hi everybody,

I'm not sure if this feat already exists: Is there a feat that increases HD caps or caster level caps or the like?

The ELH describes a feat (Enhance Spell) that increases the number of damage dices for spells (e.g., a Fireball can be upgraded to do 20d6 damage). But I'm not sure if there's something similar for other caps...

Do you mean like this...

Improved Spell Capacity [Epic]

Prerequisite:
Ability to cast spells of the normal maximum spell level in at least one spellcasting class.

Benefit:
When you select this feat, you gain one spell slot per day of any level up to one level higher than the highest level spell you can already cast in a particular class. The character must have the requisite ability score (10 + spell level) in order to cast a spell stored in such a slot. If the character has a high enough ability modifier to gain one or more bonus spells for this spell level, she also gains those bonus spells for this spell level. This feat can’t grant spellcasting ability to a class that doesn’t have spellcasting ability. A character must use the spell slot in a class of which she can already cast the maximum normal spell level.

Special:
You can gain this feat multiple times.

Err, unfortunately not. ISC gives an additional spell slot, but it doesn't increase any cap limits. Enhance Spell increases dice dependent cap limits by 10 (if the number of dices is equal to the caster level, e.g., for Meteor Swarm) or by 5 (if the number is equal to caster level / 2, e.g. for Searing light).

Is there a feat that increases other cap limits, e.g. the check for Greater Dispelling, the HD caps Shapechange or Polymorph...?

Ahh... I see where you are headed now... Good idea for a feat, but I don't recall seeing it already. Have you looked throught the netbook of feats? Or launch into the house rules section with your own.

Personally, I think that Enhance Spell should do this as well. The feat is hopelessly underpowered as it stands; a +4 level increase for +10 HD of damage is weak, weak, weak unless you already have Improved Metamagic x3... at which point you can increase damage using Empower and Energy Admixture with much more facility.

IMC, Enhance Spell boosts the caps for all level-dependent variables by +10 caster levels.

Ruleslawyer the only benefit of that epic feat opposed to empowers is that if they use the non feat stacking and you can only empower once the feat allows you to break this rule.

I also agree however that as it stands its pathetically weak except for games with rules stated above.

There is a feat that allows you to add 1dice of damage for like fire spells and the like. I forget its name but it might be in a dragon magazine or races of faerun but any fire spell adds 1 dice so it'd be 11d6 for a fireball.

Actually, it's even worse than that. Energy Admixture will allow you to tack on additional dice; Twin Spell allows you to double damage; and Empower multiplies damage by 1.5. Even if you can't use more than one Empower, you can use Empower + EA, as I suggested above, or Twin + Empower.

:( Hm, seems so. It won't be a big problem as long as I dm, but we change the dm in our group regularly, so each player should accept a new homebrewed feat.

As my group is going epic soon (the PC's are at level 18 and the coming challenges will be very tough...), I thought to give my druid four times Improved Spell Capacity. He has the Persistent Spell feat already, so it would be funny to have him an active Shapechange on all day. The 3.5 errata decreased the HD cap for this spell to 25, making the spell quite weak from level 25 on (although I agree that it was a good fix).

I tried to develop an epic version of Shapechange, but that's impossible with the ELH rules (it seems also to be impossible to research the normal Shapechange with the ELH... :o ).

Enhance Spell is worthless as it is written, as was pointed out by ruleslawyer...

Hmmm, perhaps I should go with Tenacious Magic, Magical Beast Shape and Dragon Shape. Can't be dispelled at least and the only cap is the actual druid level...

Thanks for help!
