No idea what snot is.
Dirty down snot. It's like a stretchy glue. Has a tensile strength of a thick spiderweb.

Quick question for the veterans. If I'm going to do any sort of basing, do I apply spray varnish on the mini before I do the base or after? Second, any recommendations on varnish from anyone? It seems like an important step if you expect the mini to be handled with any regularity. Thanks!

Not sure about basing before or after. Though, I got some varnish I like.

If using a brush I like this.

If using airbrush (preferred) I like that.
 






Meant to say, those drybrushed minis look great to me.

That's one thing with the cheap brush set I bought. The standard brushes are doing pretty good but I question the quality (or lack thereof) of the included drybrushes. It's probably more to do with my just getting started with the technique and knowing when I've achieved what I'm aiming for in terms of coverage.
