Struggling to get details in without bumping the brush into something, painting
I question the quality (or lack thereof) of the included drybrushes. It's probably more to do with my just getting started with the technique and knowing when I've achieved what I'm aiming for in terms of coverage.
That is definitely one thing I did wrong. I used my drybrush for a couple of different colors at various times so while I cleaned it in between, the brush was definitely not fully dry. I've been using cardboard for brushing the excess paint off which definitely seems to work better than the paper towels that seemed to absorb all of the paint. I do like the idea of getting or making a textured drybrush palette at some point in the future.I use cheap make up brushes I got off Amazon and they work great. The trick is to really get the vast majority of the paint off then brush and make sure your brush actually is dry. It is better to be too light and then give it a second light go, then to go too heavy and regret it.
These are all awesome. If you don't mind me asking, how did you accomplish the two-toned armor on the knight, third from left?Struggling to get details in without bumping the brush into something, painting View attachment 427655
I've experimented with nail products myself with decent results. You can also find little decals for nails which make good designs for shields or clothing. Nice job!I was going to hold off on posting more images until I had a larger batch done but couldn't help myself after my experiment. I was taking a break from painting, having a snack in the kitchen when I noticed one of my daughters had left their glittery fingernail polish on the kitchen island...again. I kept looking at it, and looking at it, and then snagged it and brought it down to my gaming area.
Since I’ve found that speed paints don’t really work well with slapchop unless you really thin them down, I’ve found it works much better just to pain the metal paint, then do a black wash like Nuln oil from citadel, then do a very light white drybrush to highlight the edges. These are all awesome. HOLY CARP! One of my players is really into nail art and has considered using nail paint on minis. I should encourage her! And now I know to bug her for decals!I've experimented with nail products myself with decent results. You can also find little decals for nails which make good designs for shields or clothing.
