D&D (2024) Firearms to be made a fixed part of the game, new Weapons Rules

The Good Ice Drow who are better than everyone else combined actually have gunpowder and AK-47s. Just watch.
That whole double-extra-secret drow idea seems like something that, if they'd waited six months on, they could skipped.

Just do what's being done with orcs and goblins and such and differentiate culture from ancestries. We don't need two new flavors of drow; we just needed to see cities that weren't Bondagezerran.

As it is, it seems like we're going to get more "but your drow character is actually a good one" stuff in the 2024 PHB, instead of just the easier "drow are people: some are good, some are bad; don't make it weird, man."

I suspect the long lead time on writing novels, and WotC's desire to not contradict Drizzt lore, will keep things the same old, same old there.

I do hope we lean more into species having specific abilities and then the lore providing examples of how these can be used for good or ill.

Like I have a species that is literally designed to manipulate other species to guide their civilizations. For some, this manifests in them being creepy manipulators who conquer from the shadows, while for others they are inclined to be social workers and warriors because they want to make the world a better place, and still others hate the in-built nature and strive instead to isolate themselves or philosophize about the nature of freedom.

I have a big suspicion that Drizzt is about to be retired. I say this as a massive fan who's been reading him since his birth: He's no longer interesting. Everyone else around him is far more interesting. I think he's been written into a corner and there is no getting him out short of his death.

I think after the current trilogy, the next books will be about his daughter now grown up-ish and out to see the world. Maybe Grandpa Zak goes with her to also see the world. A fresh perspective and a fresh WotC Faerun. And I bet RA Salvatore hands the writing duties over to his son fully at some point. Though like Stephen King, he may keep writing for decades more. I sure hope so because I would miss his writing style.

You could have just said hand crossbows aren't a thing fam lol.

I mean, they really shouldn't be anyway. Even in a fantasy world they're just too dumb.
Hand crossbows should be sent back to the underdark as a weapon who's only purpose is to be a poison delivery device that does a max of 1 point of damage.

On a related note I will ban any feat that negates the loading property at my table.

This tweet is categorically incorrect. Greyhawk has never had firearms, as gunpowder doesn't work there. The lone exception to this is the "6 shooters" belonging to Myrlund, but those are actually wands.
Actually, I believe that was retconned in 3e. Paladins of Myrlund had access to "firebrands" (firearms).

Fun Fact: Hand crossbows were originally a drow-specific weapon back when the drow were first introduced and were used as a primarily as a sleep poison delivery system (the dart itself did only 1d3 damage).
