Firefly DVD review

Hey Wombat,

A lot of us loved the show. There is no reason to tear it down. If you did not like it, then fine. Go post something constructive in threads where you actually have a point.

Why does this set retail for $50? It's what, one season long? Family Guy and Futurama, among other shows, are like $30. Must be the small audience or something. I guess if they expect to sell fewer copies, they have to jack the price up.

I've actually seen the three unaired episodes on Canada's Space Channel. It's a shame that there's no more episodes, but at least there'll be a movie...

I don't know about Family Guy, but Futurama volume 1 is 13 thirty minute episodes for $40 (three discs), volume 2 is 19 thirty minute episodes for $50 (four discs), Family Guy volume 1 is four discs for $50 (28 thirty minute episodes), Family Guy volume 2 is three discs for $50 (22 thirty minute episodes), and Firefly is 13 one hour episodes for $50 (four discs). The prices above are the list prices according to Amazon.com. The $50 price you saw is the MSRP, that doesn't stop anyone from selling things for less, plus you've got to be misremembering the regular price on the other sets.

So how are they jacking up the price exactly?

I think I might have to get this DVD set.

Fox is an interesting network: They'll experement with shows that the other big television networks wouldn't dream of airing, but at the first sign of low ratings, they'll stick the show in a crappy time slot or drop it altogether.

No, it's hour-long episodes vs. 30 minute episodes. Firefly was on for just half a season. Most full-season sets for hour-long shows go for $100.

Then somebody better tell JJ Abrams he's being ripped off. The Alias Full-Season DVD Collection Sets (Season 2 is now available) are going for $70 apiece.

$70, is that the MSRP?* Because I swear I saw one of them for $45 today.

*according to amazon.com, it is so.
