Firefly DVD review

This review reminds me how bitter I am that Fox totally showed the series out of order. Showing the pilot first instead of last would have set up the characters so much better. The stupid ad campaign that Fox did to pimp the show irks me too, since it potrayed the show as something like a comedy instead of what it really was, further misleading potential viewrs.

The review also brings up an interesting thought. Fox executives aside, how much of a factor was the fact the show came out so (relatively) close to the 9-11 attacks and the aftermath.

I'm gonna go with NONE. since the show aired in fall 2002. A full YEAR later.

I am watching one of the unaired episodes now (Trash), and it just angers me so much that this show is gone. It is soooo friggen good (and I don't like ANY of Joss's other shows by the way). Such a great group of actors, such good writing, some great directing...just so sad that it ended.

I don't blame Fox. This show isn't meant for networks. It's perfect for Sci-Fi or Showtime or even TNT, however. It belongs along side shows like Stargate...

No, it's hour-long episodes vs. 30 minute episodes. Firefly was on for just half a season. Most full-season sets for hour-long shows go for $100.

Most of the full-seasons of buffy and angel are what, $60? And you can usually find them for less. Maybe more-mainstream shows are more expensive? They can expect to sell more of them, no matter the price.

Though actually, I'd expect a Buffy DVD to sell about as well as, say, Law and Order, even though L&O probably has more fans, because Buffy fans are more likely to fall into the "obsessive collector" demographic. Not that I'm hatin', since I own a couple seasons of Buffy myself. :)

Nah, just some. Star Trek, X-Files, etc, do. Stargate, Buffy, Angel... None of them go for that much.

Some shows are more, some are less. The Buffy and Angel season sets are generally about $60, $45.00 or so when they first come out. Some, like Bab5 and Farscape, are $70.00-$90.00 depending on the retailer. I have not a single clue how they determine the pricing; you'd think Buffy would be in far greater demand and thus command a higher price but it's the most reasonably priced season set I know of. Which is probably why I bought it instead of Bab5 or Farscape.

The Beastmaster series 1 and 2 are like $60.00, while Season 3 is $39.99. Have no idea if they're going to roll back the price on seasons 1 and 2.

I got the Firefly DVD set for Christmas myself. My sons and I watched the pilot episode tonight, and we've decided that starting next week Friday nights are going to be Firefly night. It's going to kill me, but I'm going to watch them in order (I've seen them all but the three unaired episodes, which are toward the end of the sequence), one episode a week, so they last longer that way. Ah, the sweet anticipation!

I got them for Christmas as well, and I wish I had your discipline. My wife and I watched them all over the weekend . . .
