Firefly RPG I want it!

There is a real easy way to do a Firefly like game.

Take all of your old Stardrive, Star Frontiers, and Traveller source books and mix them all together and shake em up real good.

Now throw out all the alien species (except the cow fetus aliens that live in glass jars).

Also throw out all of the high tech weapons and equipment, they don't have that stuff on the outer rim.

Make your pc's dirt poor.

Make all your pc's equipment second hand or used.

If your using d20 modern as your system none of the characters should have an allegence to Law.

Also, the most important part of this game is that the Science in the Science Ficiton game takes a back seat. It doesn't matter how anything works so don't try to explain any of the science. The Science is just a more interesting way of telling a Western. Which is what Firefly is a Space Western.

Oh, yeah and everybody speaks both English and Chinese.

And all the bad guys wear hats and the good guys don't.

Anyhoo, I concur. A Firefly RPG setting book for d20 Modern/Future would be a joyous thing. d20 Future should give you everything you need for the basics, but setting-specific weapons, equipment, advanced classes, etc. would make this book well worth it.

Oh sure taunt us with d20 Future again... But from the looks of your story hour d20 Future should be more than enough to support the basics of the Firefly setting. I agree that a campaign book would still be need though.

I think you could probably do this with Traveller T20 without much fuss. Possibly mix that with some of the stuff from FarScape and you might be able to make a credible Firefly d20 RPG.

Setting Firefly in the 'world' of Traveller would be really easy. Set the game after the Solomani War, and Mal and Zoe are both Solomani vets.

And, to set the analogy in place, basically, Firefly takes place after the American Civil War. Mal and Zoe were Confederates who came from the frontiers and volunteered. After the war they went west to escape the 'Union' government... but of course, the US continued to expand westward. The frontier gets smaller and smaller every day.

I find this very interesting. My wife and I just started watching the series again (DVD colection) and we started brianstorming for ideas to use Spycraft as the rule set.

I have never heard of "The Traveller's" and will have to look into it.

Traveller has been the longest-running [hard] science-fiction roleplaying game, almost as long as D&D. While they still print the original ruleset, there are two other adapted rulesets: GURP and most recently d20.

As far as there not being enough info to successfully make a game, I'd say that, thanks to the three unaired shows, there is JUST enough info to make a complete game (one of those three answered questions I had about the state of energy weapons in the Firefly universe, another episode answered my questions about alien races).
