I just hope the movie deals with what precisely Shepard Book is. I'm still wondering who exactly he may be after that little ID check incident on the Feddy cruiser that got him medical attention real fast...

I don't think there's a whole lot to it. He's probably a former Alliance officer of mid-to-high rank who was part of some atrocity and became a shepard to atone. Maybe an Alliance war hero at that, which would create tension with Mal once he's discovered.

I like the idea of a d20 Firefly. We already have a gunslinger and soldier advanced class in the D20M sourcebook. I believe d20F had a techie advanced class that would suit Kylie. A companion seems like a setting-specific AC (for a Charismatic hero, of course). Simon Tam is a little tricky because medics are supposed to be Dedicated Heroes, but man he sure seemed like a bonehead, particularly in respect to Sense Motive checks. He's more of a Smart Hero.

I want a d20 Firefly but I think it needs to be more deadly than d20 Future. I think Vitality Points fit better. I also think non-generic classes would be a better fit as well.

Right, combat should be more deadly because in the show they go through like a cast member a week, right? I just watched a bunch of episodes last night. In "The Train Job" Mal catches a thrown knife in his chest and yanks it out. In "Shindig", he gets in a swordfight, gets slashed and stabbed nastily several times without dropping. In "Out of Gas", he gets disabled by a gunshot wound but perseveres. Even wimpy Simon takes a bullet and keeps on fighting like a mad dog to save his sister in "Objects in Space". How exactly does a more deadly combat system help capture the spirit of Firefly?

And non-generic classes would help because of how specific the skillsets are, right? Take Mal, for instance, it's clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that his specific skillset is, um, err, ahh....well, he's kind of a gunslinger and kind of a brawler and kind of a schemer....hmm, actually seems pretty open-ended to me. D20's bases classes aren't terribly generic once you pick a skill tree, and advanced classes are pretty focused, so you can create specific roles like "mechanic" or "companion". OTOH, a character like Mal works well as a multi-classed character.

People sell D20M way short.

Summer Glau (River) will be in attendence at the Sovereign Press booth on Saturday at GenCon

I've heard that she's heading to a film festival in Scotland instead of Indy GenCon. :(
