First Dark Sun Excerpt!!!

I likey! Ones more than others..

well..

not the art under july 26: characters options.. thats realy not Dark Sunny, and hope dont get the book.
I just noticed, the picture for July 30th is Kalak being assasinated. Notice his distinct lack of dragonishness.

Something I've always wondered even from the old 2E setting. What do the sorcerer kings look like? Do they look human? Do they look reptilian? Personally I've always assumed they hid behind illusions when out in public. I don't think it was ever realy mentioned officially but some of the pictures from adventures and suplements made the dragon aspect pretty blatant.

In the later supplements where they introduced actually transforming into Dragons, or whatever the other thing was, they said they start human(or whatever they were originally) and get more and more Dragonlike as they progress.

Most of them hid it (unless they were early on and still looked mostly human) with illusions and what not.

I think if I remember right Kalak was still mostly human, but his big thing (spoiler if you wanna read the books, and my memory is actually correct)

was that he planned to Dragonify himself all at once by killing a ton of peeps with a crazy spell and a ziggurat.

In 2nd edition parlance, it depended entirely on their level.

Most of the sorcerer-kings were 21st level, still looking mostly human. There were a couple that were above that (Nibenay and Hamanu), and they started to become more reptilian.

There was a handy diagram to the changes the levels bring.

Wasn't Kalak specifically trying to "skip" a bunch of levels and just jump right to dragon? Maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

However, Dregoth was really high level, and he used illusions to maintain a few different forms. However, he flaunted his dragonness outward, which was one of the reasons the other SKs hated him.

Dregoth was in the revised setting.

Some of us like to forget about the revised 'defilers only defile when preparing spells' setting.

If you look at the bottom of the Eight Characteristics of Athas article at the excerpt schedule, next to "Ch 6: Running a Dark Sun Game" is a picture of an Athasian Half-Giant/Goliath.

Let the whining commence.
I'm not worried about the Tat's on the Goliath, I'm worried about the stinking halo!

It's because he is a psionic class and in the pictures of psionic classes in 4E they tend to have a "halo" around their head. Don't ask me why, they just do. Not sure what Psionic character he is, perhaps a battlemind, but that's why he has it.
