Five New Feats

Nebuchadnezzar

First Post
These feats were made for my campaign-setting where the gods have grown silent and aloof. The cleric class is not available in my campaign as the gods do not grant spells any longer. It is not even known if the gods still exist. As if this isn't enough, the world is imprisoned, which means magic that transports creatures between planes does not work.

A few years after these cataclysmic events, some creatures were born unto the world with an aspect of divinity in their souls. The following feats (and more to come) were made to highlight their abilities.

SPARK OF DIVINITY [Soul]
Your soul contains a small spark of divinity which could be attributed to
either your strong faith or the special nature of your ancestors.
Prerequisite: Wisdom 10+.
Benefit: Select three orisons. You can cast these orisons once per day with
an effective caster level 1.
Special: You may only take this feat as a 1st-level character.

WIELD POSITIVE ENERGY [Soul]
You can channel positive energy through your divine soul.
Prerequisite: Non-evil, Spark of Divinity, Charisma 13+, Wisdom 13+.
Benefit: You can turn undead once per day at -2 your character level.
Special: A character cannot wield both negative and positive energy.

WIELD NEGATIVE ENERGY [Soul]
You can channel negative energy through your divine soul.
Prerequisite: Non-good, Spark of Divinity, Charisma 13+, Wisdom 13+.
Benefit: You can rebuke undead once per day at -2 your character level.
Special: A character cannot wield both negative and positive energy.

EXPERT CHANNELER [Soul]
You have enhanced abilities at channeling either negative or positive energy.
Prerequisite: Wield Negative Energy or Wield Positive Energy.
Benefit: You can rebuke or turn undead thrice per day at your character level.

MASTER CHANNELER [Soul]
You have greatly enhanced abilities at channeling either negative or positive
energy.
Prerequisite: Expert Channeler.
Benefit: You can rebuke or turn undead five times per day at +2 your character level.

I'd say that all of these feats are pretty well balanced (although I'd say that a D&D campaign without any clerics would be very tough since the challenge ratings, etc. assume the availability of healing spells).

If you allowed clerics in your campaign, I would change power down the turning feats (turn as a 0-level cleric with no advancement) but allow them to be exchanged for Divine Feats (DotF) if the character aquired turning as a class ability.

So i guess Sorcerers and Bards make pretty good undead-turners in your game if they wanna burn the 3 feats?

and Fighters are probably one of the few classes that have enuff feats to burn the 3... :(

Sorcerors do not exist in my campaign-world, but bards would indeed be excellent undead-turners if they burn three feats, and even more so if they elect to pick the fourth feat in the chain. But anyone could potentially turn undead, rogues, rangers, druids etc, which is exactly the point.

I like them! Now if we can only make the bards cast healing spells as well as a Cleric we wouldn't need the buggers!!!:D

Seriously. They are well balanced and make for a neat character twist on PrC that require undead turning and divine spells!
Good job!

Have they seen any in-game testing yet?

Unfortunately, no. It still remains to be seen if they prove to be balanced or not. But I'm quite pleased with the feats, and intend to make more soul feats which expand on the concept. Also I think it would be cool to make a prestige class for the creatures who have an exceptional clear spark of divinity. This prestige class would resemble the fighter in that it gives a large number of bonus feats, all of which are soul feats.

Here is the entire feat chain for a character whom wishes to cast cleric spells from the aspect of divinity in his soul. Note that it would be impossible for a character with twenty levels in any core class (and most prestige classes) to complete the chain. However it is possible for a character to complete the feat chain if they take levels in a prestige class I'm working on which grants a large number of bonus feats (of the soul sort).

Question

Some people have the gift and will of divinity...
An ancient prophecy, yet to be fulfilled...
The idea of the return of the gods...
By x amount of Chosen Ones...
Wielding great power...

What an intrigueing world.
And feats to spark the imagination.

Can I ask a dumb question?

It seems like an awful lot of feats to give up for those small powers. (if they only have less than 5 feats invested)

Why would the PC's bother? (other than role-playing reasons)
