I've seen a lot of these types of questions, and a while ago I made a spreadsheet to help me answer these kinds of questions. I'll post it here now for everyone's benefit.
The spreadsheet takes an attack bonus before adding proficiency and a target defense. It then calculates, for each (non-magical) weapon what the damage per attack would average out to. In addition, it calculates what the damage of versatile weapons wielded in two hands would average.
The sheet wasn't made with public consumption in mind, so it's not the prettiest thing ever. Still, it'll probably be a useful thing for many people.
