Fort Knocks - knight otu judging

Skeeter has remained silent since returning to the interior of the hospice from the stables, and to those who barely know him, has done well to blend in amond the hoar sons. When Jenrald dumps the equipment out before the audience and sorting has begun, Skeeter steps forward from the crowd to inspect certain items.

"As for the other items - I agree with Artax that it makes sense to give the dagger to one who wields it well. With regard to the wands, however, I must disagree. Since we are a large party with limited healing ability, it would be better to keep the wands for the succour of the wounded than to use them as weapons against the foul ones."

"As to the potions, I too have some skill in hiding and moving silently, so I will trust to that, and to my speed if I have to make a strategic withdrawal."

Skeeter engages Eusebius, "You seem to know a lot about combat, and are quick to share your knowledge of our foe's weakness. At first, I worried about finding myself on foot against these enemies, but your leadership inspires me. I am glad I will be aside you in this endeavour."

She pauses thoughfully, "Amongst the Barav Kree," she begins again, not noticing the rolling eyes of many of the Hoar Suns, "The swiftest warriors are the bearers of healing magics," she raises her gaze to Skeeter, "So that they may quickly bring The Mother's touch to the fallen. Rainca would bet her axe," she pats the careworn hilt of the wicked battle axe hanging at her hip, "That she is the swiftest of the warriors here."

Skeeter smiles at Rainca, and without breaking his gaze on her, responds "I can vouch for Rainca's speed on foot. I think should would be the most suited among us with a wand. However, warrior woman, if we are to encounter the enemy while I am mounted, you may have to give up that axe." Skeeter winks at Rainca.

"It seems you are all very anxious to begin the journey that will take us to this Fort. As I understand it, the Hoar Suns will be joining you, and I look forward to this honor. However, I ask that you consider that my comrads and I have only just ended a long journey. One that most endured on foot. I hope that we will be allowed the luxery of a nights rest?"

Rurik rises from his chair rather abruptly, the movement punctuated by the clanging of his axes.

"Arr, ye c'n rest at camp, and 'elp me steer me 'orse fer tha ride!"

Rurik seems a semi-bit impatient to go. Considering for a moment that none of these new companions probably knows why, Rurik continues.

"Fer me, we are mighty close ta 'ome, an', er, I'd 'preciate it greatly if we c'd set out today. Me own fathers and theirs as well, an' again an' again before me time o' this life, 'ave purchased ore from this mine. An' if this is not tha end o' the attack, me own 'Alls c'd well nigh be next.

So then, I'd well prefer ta be settin' out nah, if's not too much trouble. If I 'member correct-like, 'tis a long journey, an'd be time enough to rest a' the way ongoing, is all.

"In truth, I am no leader - but it is evident to me that we are best served by sharing not only the risks of this endeavour but also our skills and knowledge. Far better that we spend a little time in talk than that a member of our company fall through lack of shared experience."

"As to when we set out, I too am eager to be gone, and I recognise the validity of Rurik's concerns - but I do know the bone-aching weariness of too much travel. Is there a compromise that we could reach? If some of us were to leave today, perhaps the rest could catch us up on the trail. I am willing to forgo my mount if it will assist another in this venture."

Rainca nods at Eusebius' words, "Rainca sees Warrior Eusebius' wisdom as well as his integrity, but she would ask him to consider where most allies fall. Does Eusebius think more allies fall in the thick of battle, on the edge of the Laugher's blade... or somewhere else?"

Her face splits in a wolfish grin, "But Rainca would not force her ways on others. She wishes only to share the wisdom of the Barav Kree. What others choose to do after that, however foolish, is for them to arrange with the Gray Vulture." She laughs as if she's made some great joke. Apparently Barav Kree humor also takes some... translation.

She catches her breath, "Rainca suggests a compromise. One who will bear weapons into the teeth of battle should carry one healing stick. The other should remain with someone who will be fighting at range. Though, Rainca still thinks this stick should go to one who is fleet, even if they are not so fleet as Rainca." She smiles, a bright glint in her eye.

These are very different people than Rainca is used to. Laugher, Wise Mother, help your daughter to be true and strong and not a braying ass.

She smiles at Skeeter's words, "What does Skeeter wager, if Rainca outstrips Mystic?"

"Some of my masters would say, 'There is only battle, and waiting for battle.' Others, and I would prefer to believe them, would suggest that there is only life, and not-life. Whether we are in battle or in peace, we are in life. Not-life is a betrayal of our responsibility to live. It is both physical and spiritual. It is why the Shining One hates the undead with such a burning passion." Eusebius pauses to control his own passion, then continues: "Still, you give me cause to think. I had assumed that most died in battle - but many are the approaches of darkness."

"Then if Rainca were to carry one of the wands into battle, Artax could use the other at range. No doubt there will also be opportunities enough for Artax to close with our enemies, so as to make use of the blade of power he now wields!"

Rurik follows the conversation as if it were a rock fight: first this pearl of wisdom, then that - ow! that left a mark! After a couple of minutes, he turns to Skeeter:

"What'd she call ye?"

"Ha! It's a nickname I was dubbed when I was quite young. For many a years I have gone by the name. So long, in fact, that I could count the Hoar Suns that know my real name on one hand.

Rainca, I would feel bad for taking your money. Besides, I don't gamble,"
Skeeter says with a shrug.

ooc: the equiptment currently in the group's possession.
9 doses of holy water
3 oils of Magic Stone
2 potions of Hide From Undead
2 wands of Cure Light Wounds one with 24 charges reamaining, the other with 15
1 +1 undead bane daggar
Eusebius looks over the assembled company. "So then, if each of us were to take a vial of 'holy' water," - here he smiles at the Mortalists present - "we could perhaps leave it to Rainca or Skeeter to distribute the rest among the Hoar Suns. Or if they do not want them, perhaps the remainder could be carried by Nodis."

OOC: Kahuna, Knight Otu, I don't know if you want to run NPC's with some of these items or not - it just seems strange to ignore the Hoar Sun NPCs altogether in this discussion.

"As to the oils, I will take two, and Nodis could bear the third - unless you, Nodis, are particularly skilled at hitting the mark, in which case you could take two and I would take one. In that way, we would get the best use of these valuable items."

"Nodis has expressed an interest in one of the potions. If none of the rest of us want one, would it be best for him to carry both?"

"As for the wands, Rainca and Artax are to carry them, and Artax will bear the Bane of Undead blade as well."

"Does this seem equitable to all here assembled? Do all feel they have a fair share of this bounty of our hosts?"

Nodis small frame shrugs. "It´s ok for me as you say. I´ll fill my pockets with stones, then."

"If we´re going to leave tomorrow, I´m going to have a walk. Hey!" exclaims then, "if someone comes with me I couls show what I do and practice for when we find some walking corpses."

OOC: Someone, at this stage I don't want to split and complicate the storyline when we've already bogged down because of the weekend - but I do think it'd be a great idea for us to rehearse our tactics. So assume that Eusebius would be keen to go with Nodis, and certainly keen to plan ahead - but that he wouldn't particularly want to do that until the question of when we're leaving is finally decided. At the moment there's been no response to his suggestion of the Hoar Suns resting today and catching up with the rest of us tomorrow.

As to the oils, since Eusebius and Nodis have the same DEX ***metagame alert***, I'd like to take two and give one to N.
