[FR]Player wants to play a Bard/Ninja :), what do you think?

 Currently the idea I am working on is that Malkaviel began as a bard. His love of performance and innate magical abilities inspired many in his travels, and his obvious celestial background noticeable by his eyes of glittering gold struck awe into many.

Unlike most bards, Malkaviel was surprisingly lawful and worked to better the world around him.

At some point he was approached by a sect of "good" assassins. Their positions were such that it was often difficult for justice to prevail over corrupt societies. In those teachings, he learned that justice is not always lawful, and became somewhat chaotic in exacting justice (i.e. using poisons, stealthy assassinations, etc).

What it boils down to is that he uses his bardic skills and charisma as a masquerade to win his way into places that might typically be very difficult to get into. When the time is right, he strikes as a skilled assassin, using slight of hand, stealth, and mastery of poisons to bring
down those who have perverted the justice system.

Name: Malkaviel Celestine
Race: Aasimar
Class: Ninja/Bard 3
Age: 28
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 135lbs
Gender: M
Alignment: CG
Deity: Sharess

The above is from the player..

We are playing in FR, in the Silver Marches area, based out of Silverymoon. Also this is a Gestalt game.

The player is very new to pen and paper, having mostly played online rpgs and the like. I think I am going to let it go, since he actually did make up a background, unlike a few of the other players. But I am having a hard time seeing a CG 'assassin'.

During the campaign though, he will not be doing any actual assassinations. At least I am going to try and limit them.

I don't see a problem. "Assassin" isn't really the right word for the character. He's not much different from most adventurers, save that he feels that the best way to deal out justice is with a knife in the back. That makes sense for a CG character to me.

Sounds extremely cool to me.

Of course, I've had a majority of characters who were essentially good assassins than anything else in the last few campaigns, so I'm biased.

Good celestial ninja assassin... **Roll_Eyes**

And Bard. Don't sell the man short.

Anyway, Im gonna let it go, the guy is new, and he is starting to become a good player. He stays focused during the game and at leasts reads the rulebooks.
He has been playing D&D less than a year I think.

I don't see any problems with this character.

It doesn't seem an assassin like the DMG assassin: that one is someone who kills as a job, without questioning why the target has to be killed (which is definitely immoral and evil), but this one is not different from anyone else in the party, only he employs stealth as a favored tactic, so it can be possibly good.

I don't like mixing up western and eastern characters in a RPG, but since the "standard" game already has monks, I see no reasons why it cannot have ninjas, whether I like it or not.

Quick!!!

A CG Assassin?!

Quick, euthanasia! A CG drow rgr is just around the bend!!!!

Seriously though, it actually seems like an intersting idea, using Bard and all. I'd think about creating a CG Assassin varient for him, but otherwise let it go.

At least, you could use the "Slayer of Domiel" prestige class found p.73 of the Book of Exalted Deeds. Still odiously cheesy in my opinion (but dungeonpunk style has its adepts anyway), but more coherent.

(Slayer of Domiel is a prestige class of good aligned assassins serving some high-up of the Seven Heavens.)
