Freddy vs Jason?

I cast "Raise Topic" :)

Finally got to see it last week. Pretty good even though the lead actress was so bad I was hoping she'd get killed by both Freddy and Jason...and then brought back to life and killed again.

I did really enjoy the fact that they didn't wimp out on it. It's a solid R-rated film. And they kept them both evil! Wow, that shocked me. I was expecting Jason to turn good.

I miss Kane Hodder, though. He brought subtlety to the role that the new guy lacks.

BTW, it's been revealed why Hodder was replaced. It turns out they filmed in Canada and the new Jason is Canadian. It turns out that you get some kind of tax break or something due to Canadian law.

As with most things in the world, it's Canada's fault. :D

I'm a big fan of B-movies of the past, and I've heard similar stories concerning European productions. I recall a European director being asked why one of the lead actresses in one of his films was so bad and he admited that he hired her because of her nationality and the tax break only.

Another story I remember was, I think, a Spanish film which shot in Italy. They had to add an Italian co-director in the credits even though the guy apparently only did one or two 2nd unit shots. It turns out, years later the Italian was claiming that he shot the vast majority of the film. Needless to say, it ticked off the actual director. The leads were interviewed and admitted that they never worked once with the Italian guy, which easily discredits his story.

Anyway, back to F VS J. If you have the least bit of interest, you should check it out. The final fight is worth the price of admission.

In fact, this is the last week for it locally, so I'm off to see it once more today.

The Sequel?

There's already rumors that there will be a sequel to F vs J, possibly with Ash from the Evil Dead films.

Well, earlier in the week, I took a trip to the mall. I went there specifically for a certain dvd (which they didn't have). Anyway, Sam Goody was having a sale on the Nightmare and Friday movies to cash in on the new film, plus they were having a 10% off sale, so I picked up a couple of the Friday movies I liked.

One of the dvds I bought was Jason Goes To Hell. After watching it, I noticed something. There's a scene in which the hero is looking around the old house Jason grew up in (which was waayyy to big and nice looking, btw). Amongst the assorted stuff, he picks up...a copy of the Necrominicon! Now I'm not just talking about an arcane-looking book with "Necrominicon" written on the cover. I mean the real, weird-looking, face-for-a-cover book from the Evil Dead movies.

Now the whole "Ash" team-up doesn't look so much like it came out of left field.

It's a bit fun thinking up ways to tie this all together. My theory is that Jason is like the girl from The Ring. His mom used magic or made a deal with something from beyond to have a child. That would explain why he came back from the dead after drowning as a child. He was never a normal kid.

Of course, in the basement, you could also briefly see a crate marked "Arctic Expedition", which is from Creepshow, so the Necrominicon may be nothing more than an injoke tossed in by the filmmakers. :)

Didn't they pretty much come out directly and say that in the movie?
That's a least exactly the exact impression I got from the movie and I
didn't really think about it much.

JGtH is probably my fav Friday flick for how it expanded the mythos and
gave it a frame to work in (which I didn't think got utilized very well in
Jason X -- although I liked the movie for it's campyness -- but was used
perfectly in FvsJ).

Did they? I don't recall it being stated outright. Then again, there are a few versions of this film floating around (R-rated, "uncut", a supposedly even more complete Japanese print), so I may have missed it.

BTW, it's nice to see someone else who likes Jason X. That's my 2nd favorite, behind F vs J. The holdeck Crystal Lake scene was hilarious. I didn't care for Cyber-Jason, though. Ugly design.

JgtH is a pretty good film, but suffers from not having more Jason, especially since they had a cool suit. They should have brought him back halfway through the movie.

JGtH is of course one of those movies that simply don't work if you haven't
seen a bunch of the earlier ones. But in context, it's my fav.

Jason X I have some difficulty placing in my Top List. It's absolutely hillarious
and fun, but that's it. I'm mostly into it for the Mythos, so I like the movies
that expand upon it the most.

It's in a completely *different* list, really.
