Fun end of Evard season

Some people seem to forget that Second Wind not only allows the expenditure of a healing surge, but also gives +2 on all defences until EONT. I think it's entirely unfair to suddenly give the monster access to that power if it wasn't already on its stat block.

The First Aid action of a heal skill check prohibits the +2 bonus to defenses, only the healing occurs.

Not really legal, but so awesome, I'd have given the player a Moment of Greatness in addition to allowing it.

The players tried, but i'd already gotten it this chapter for climbing the outside of the library, successfully stealthing through a 2nd floor window (in the stairwell) wearing full plate armor, and during the fight, bull rushing what's his name (Nethair?) over the 2nd floor balcony 20 ft up (he rolled a 6 on his save to be pushed over) for 18 dmg (2d10) for the rest of the party to curb stomp and drop a book case on him.

... Your table seems a heck of a lot more fun than ours. Don't get me wrong, we have fun, but I've been trying to encourage bold tactics like this.

During a previous zombie/skel engagement a couple sessions previous, while trapped in a boarded up house night of the living dead style, the others were bunched up by the front door, with Overta in the kitchen. Overta, as part of her movement, jumped up on a long table with an acrobatics check, then leaped off the other end of the table and burst through the boarded up window with an athletics check, landing on her feat with another acrobatics check, then took a swipe at some skels, but missed. Regardless of missing, I was now outside, with my defender aura up, one turn from flanking against the skels choking up the front door and stopping others from approaching from the side.

When I go for these stunts, I make sure I have the DM's attention and offer roll suggestions for the actions I want to try as i'm explaining the action.

Sure, but First Aid only triggers the monster's extant Second Wind. So you are essentially arguing that all monsters have access to Second Wind, even though it doesn't appear in their stat block. I see that as just wrong. The rules are clear on that.

My view on this is: If I, as the DM, had pulled this trick on the players, what had the reaction been? Not a very positive one, I'm sure.
