Here's a page within an excellent dice site that includes a long list of games you can play with d6s, many of which would make great gambling games that would be unfamiliar to players:

And with good reason...it seems this thread was past its expiry date!

Yeah, thread necromancy.

However, before I noticed the date, I was thinking of a dice game someone showed me back in the '80s, at a D&D game. It was called In-Between. And lo, Wipput Guud mentioned it.

Aside from that one guy (I think he was a teacher from a the local Christian high school), I have never heard of that game in the 25 years in between. That's neat.

I like the dice slots and slot variant(d8's) in the back of the old First edition DM's Guide. There are a few others in there too, I think In-Between is one of them.

Anyone know how to do the probability computation for this one? I'm going to have a game of dice going in one of the pubs in my games and I have no doubt that one of the PCs will want to get in on it.
If I calculated it correctly, it's 40/216 or roughly 18.5%.

Four number pairs can have one number inbetween, three can have two inbetween, etc.:
(4*1 + 3*2 + 2*3 + 1*4)*2 = 40

I'm pretty sure you're right. To double check, I ran it through an algorithm and got 40 successes:
123,124,125,126,134,135,136,145,146,156,234,235,236,245,246,256,321,345,346,356,421,431,432,456,521,531,532,541,542,543,621,631,632,641,642,643,651,652,653,654

Thanks. I ended up giving 4:1 odds for the game so I wasn't too far off.

And sorry about resurrecting such an old thread. I did the search through google and didn't even notice the dates.

I came up with a cool one I call "Dicette"

It's basically roulette with dice.

1) Get 1d20, 2d6, a flip mat and a small pawn or marker.
2) Draw a 5X4 grid and put numbers 1-20 in each different square. Alternate the colours of the squares between Black & Red. Make sure the squares are big enough so your players can place bets on them.
3) Have a separate area, 2 boxes (in a different colour) representing the 2d6 result. Keep this completely separate from the main grid. Put the numbers "2" and "12" here. This will represent your House Edge, which is about 5.5% .
4) Allow players to place their bets. They can bet on 1 number, 2 numbers, 4 numbers, 5 numbers, or even 10 numbers if they bet Black or Red, Even or Odd. They can even bet on the house 2 or 12. To speed up the game, make sure you have a minimum bet the player's can put down to play. I've done 5gp for "Inside" or minimum 10gp for "Outside" (Outside meaning Black or red, Even or Odd).
5) Roll the dice. Start with the 2d6. If you roll a "2" or a "12" it means the house wins. If players bet anywhere on the 5X4 grid or outside, everything is automatically lost. If they bet on the House (your separate box), give them 16-1 or 8-1 back if they bet on both numbers.
6) If 2 or 12 doesn't come up, roll the D20. Place the marker or pawn on the number that comes up and announce the winners and hand out any rewards (if any).
7) Start next round and go back to step 4.
