Gaming W/Jemal: Legends (3.5e d&D) *Recruitment Closed*

Don't forget everyone that you are Blessed right now, so that's +1 on all attacks

Doesn't apply to grapple checks, but when you get free...

Rathan - Yeah I figured somethin like that, just wanted to make sure you weren't playing another game with the same name (Cuz that could get confusing when searching for names *L*)

And did you catch the reply to your 'SR Rant'? The orbs of force aren't personal, it's not like I said to myself "Hey he's got unbeatable SR, I need to find a way around that", this character was designed before I even posted recruiting for this game, and his tactic just doesn't include having to beat SR for the most part.

Uh i feel that i didn't build Sila too well. She seems useless :/ Anyone want to help with spell selection later on? (I am definitely getting Sphere of Chaos and Ray of Stupidity when i get the chance though)

I'm unfamiliar with Sphere of Chaos, and as far as Ray of Stupidity goes, you mentioned it once before and this was my reply then:

Jemal said:
Good luck with that. *Evil grin* I've gone on record in numerous games that I dislike instant death. I've also informed you all in this thread that I believe in the 'mutually assured destruction'& 'Eye for an Eye' modes of GMing. If you guys start using instadeath, so will I.

Also, what makes you feel that your character is useless? By my estimation she's dealt the most damage.

Well i should have planned a bit more, but prior to game launch i had emotional stuff to deal with so i couldn't concentrate. For example, if i had packed a Bigby's Crushing Hand (I have it, just didn't prepare it) it could have helped with the grappling bear thing.

Ray of stupidity i want to use with the Rod of Empower to disable spellcasters, not combine with other stat-draining spells to instantly kill NPCs. Right now nothing can stop Rho from casting spells. But if you are opposed i will not buy it - i don't feel restricted if i don't have it, just give me a suggestion on how to disable enemy casters that can fly (otherwise that Howling Chain sounds the way to go)

Also, yes Sila has dealt the most damage but that's because she is an AOE blaster - that still doesn't make her all that useful since the enemy is in obvious good health. And, mind you, she is using the best tricks she has up her sleeve.

uhhh, sphere of chaos is a spell from Baldur's Gate II (which used AD&D), what i meant was Prismatic Sphere it seems really good.

Overall since i'm pretty new to all this i'm not sure that i build the character to be of use at this level. Sure Sila can be devastating versus most of the critters i have read about or seen i a game, but vs strong NPCs with character levels, i'm starting to doubt myself. So Jemal you think she is good enough as she is?

edit: i was reading the RG thread.. How did Sigil get so many overlapping contingencies? I thought you can have only one active at any given moment... If not I'm sure to stack several (stoneskin, fly and mirror image at least).

Sigil has the 'craft contingent spell' feat from complete arcane. It's a cross between contingency and item creation. Basically a character with it can craft an 'item' that's actually a contingent spell active on your person, and can have multiples of these. They can also place these on other people. The only downside to them is that they can be dispelled as spells b/c they're not permanent magical items (Though then again so can a normal contingency).

Unfortunately the warlock lvl 12 imbue item ability combined with this gives any 12th lvl warlock with this feat the ability to have (theoretically) EVERY contingency possible.

As far as Prismatic Sphere - It's definitely a powerful defense, but I fail to see how it makes your character more 'useful'. It's an "OH :):):):), gotta hide!" spell in my opinion.

Ray of Stupidity - Both uses for it follow the same theory as a save or die spell - Either it removes the character it's used on from the equation, or it does practically nothing of worth. Granted, Rho in particular is more resistant to that being a fighter/mage hybrid, but most mages that it is used on cease to be a factor. It's the same as Sundering a fighter's weapon.. Unless he was designed with a backup mode of combat, the fight's basically over at that point.
As I said before, take it if you wish but just know that doing so means NPCs gain acess to it as well.

As it stands now the only thing I'm doing that 'negates' a PC is the bear's grappling, which while I do feel kinda bad for Sabastian/Adamas, isn't too bad considering the sheer number of PCs. Also factor in that the grappling only lasts so long as the bear maintains it and you guys have several ways I can think of that you could get the trapped PC's free... you guys just need to think smart and work together.

Speaking of teamwork, don't forget everyone the bonuses you're getting for the blessing, Oroz's 'feelings', and Chevik's Lion's roar.

just give me a suggestion on how to disable enemy casters that can fly
Dispel Magic or Deal damage? I actually don't see how ray of stupidity would solve that in the first place...

Myth, I think your character is well built, and if I thought she were underpowered I'd have said so earlier. Lets wait till this fight is over before we make any decisions on character's effectiveness, k? (That's kinda the point of me sending these uber-PC's after you guys - to see what you can do to stop them)

Yeah, does anyone have Freedom of Movement able to be cast or already active and someone else with Benign (or Baleful) Transposition? That'd fix the grapple right there.

I've noted Adamas' weakness in escaping grapples (whoops) and not taking a light weapon to do something in a grapple (double whoops), but outside of a grapple he could handle someone like Rho. Maybe. Possibly. Probably not. But he'd be a distraction enough.

Sila can cast one Benign Transposition, but that would put her in front of the bear thing... Granted she already has a Greater Blink on so that could help her. What do you guys think?

Also, Jemal, thanks! I am reassured now that you have given the character praise. It was not a matter of being underpowered but rather being poorly built in regards to the resources we have been given. I like the Elemental Savant/Archmage combo, i was referring to spell choice mostly. I am sure she will perform adequately, and perhaps will only need to prepare slightly different spells for the future.

If push really comes to shove and we start getting demolished i can burn 5000 XP for a Wish.

I'll have to re-read the description, but if I can take other people along when I use Flee The Scene, I can rescue someone from a grapple.

If not, even a Grease spell can even the odds. :)

I'll post to the thread tonight. I need my books, and I don't have them at work. Have an action in mind...hopefully their saves aren't too far out of whack for CR 20. :)

Myth, your character does not have to be a target of a Benign Transposition, just allies. So if another character had a freedom of movement ring and swapped spots with Adamas or Sabastian, then that would free them from the grapple.

With a Grease, that'd put Adamas at a +39/+34/+29/+24 for opposed Grapple Checks. One of those might work. Unfortunately, the way I fear that Bear would just hug him once more and then we're at square one. I just want a chance for him to get off 7 Attacks.
