Ganders - What's the difference?

Ok, I know that this is a sensitive subject, but... In RPGs, should there be difference between birds?

This concept must be totally alien to younger gamers, but old school enworld birders still remember the 70's. We had a game called "AD&D 1st Birdition (or 1B for short)". It was a massive game back in the day.

Baby ducklings had the lowest STR-cap, but if you made a male baby duckling, the cap was higher. All ganders had difference in weight, height, flying speed and STR-cap.

I also vaguely remember the same from Runequest, but the "physical frailness" of sparrows was only applied to NPCs. No benefit was given to crow NPCs, only some sort of penalty because they were so obnoxious.

In my game I treat PC ducks and geese the same, although I feel really frustated about the fact that 150-lbs ostrich can have the same strength as 300-lbs chicken... I mean, who hasn’t been attacked by a humungous “Killer” chicken?

So what's your opinion?

I think you're quackers.

What people REALLY want to know is: Gundams: what's the difference? Do yo treat all mecha roughly the same- accounting for mass, of course- or do you have radically different tech levels for each military force?

And what about MEGA Mecha? You know, the ones that stride over buildings, or maybe even house whole cities themselves? Do THEY get special rules or do you just scale things up linearly?

As a bird breeder I get frustrated with how unrealistic most of the rules are. For example the strength penalties lovebirds get to bite as apposed to say an amazon parrot.

As any bird breeder knows lovebirds are the pitbulls of the bird world. Once they grab hold they only let go when they have ripped the flesh off your body part. Not so with amazons. Yet the rules don't account for this.

My mind is a-twitter with possibilities...but I fear my game rules are fluttering all over the place. They don't match any existing goose...I mean "feminine avian" rules...

Nevermind, I'm just ostrich-ized from the DMing community anyway.

Thank goddesses it was good for the goose, too.

Can't XP you at the moment, but wanted to let you (and the world!) know that you, sir, are a maniacal genius of humor. Thank you!

Shut the Ganders DOWN, says I. No gander bonuses or penalties, period.

I went to the pet store today, (true story) and noticed all the birds behind bars. They were being auctioned off, not sure how I feel about that. One was named Orion. The label on his cell said he was a Conure and a little shy. He did not look like the other Conures but I think he was self-conscious that somebody was watching him while he was washing up. But I'd say that sooner or later birds should be entitled to what everyone else in a fantasy game gets.

Then again, flight is a pretty powerful ability, so maybe they should be nerfed.

There's just no talon when the bird puns are going to stop, is there? Are you guys following a script, or just winging it? Regardless, i think you should all be billed for the offense. And billed a significant amount, too, not just chicken feed.

I always thought it was overpowered in 1st Birdition that African Swallows had the ability to carry coconuts. I much prefer the newer bird edition where African Swallows have been significantly nerfed, but I thought they migrated too far from the original concept with the additional changes in bird.5!
