Gear for a Battlerager/Frenzied Berserker

So I'm building a battlerager as a backup character for the druid I'm playing in a Banewarrens game and I'm finding myself very unimaginative when it comes to his gear.

He's an exceptionally strong shield dwarf from the spine of the world who is a bullheaded, hard-drinking, greataxe-totin', bad axe mamma jamma.

If the druid dies now, the replacement axe idiot will likely be 7th level, though it's possible his entrance to the game could be delayed all the way up to 15th level depending on my tree-hugger's luck.

I know I want the dwarf in spiked armor with a greataxe and a horned helm, but can I get some help with the rest of it?

In my experience, mid to high level melee characters require high damage, high hit points, and the ability to fly and see invisibility to be viable.

If it matters, the build I'm looking at is brb3/ftr2/battlerager5 with any subsequent levels being in frenzied berserker. So feats are pretty much tied up in the prereq's of endurance, power attack, cleave, destructive rage, and intimidating rage. Iron Will and Bullheaded should add to the rage will save modification and a cloak of resistance to hopefully keep accidental party homicide down, but I figure they'll be giving a battlerager a lot of space to begin with.

Which of course means, he'll probably need some form of healing. Maybe a greataxe of wrathful healing from Enemies and Allies. And if I've got the money, tacking on berserking from Unapproachable East would seem appropriate too.

But what do you guys think?

Hmm, why not halfogre going for dragon disciple? Or starting with the half-dragon template? You'll have wings, not many hitpoints at low levels (with the template), but a strength to boot.

Though I'd rather get one barbarian level and go cleric afterwards... righteous might and divine power are simply too nice. :D

Barbarian... what about some nice dancing weapons and doublewielded dwarven waraxes?

There are some armour enhancements that give you a cure when you reach negative hitpoints... looks nice to me for a berserker.

See invisibility is difficult. I think getting Scent is easier.

Edit: Celestial or Fiendish Bloodlines are another nice way to get wings though it costs feats again... but I usually prefer natural to magical flying.

Free Action? You can't store Quickened True Strike or Enlarge Person in these stones, it's a standard action.

Because battleragers are dwarves. ;) And I've already played my share of half-something celestial shadow somethings as far as the group is concerned. :D

So it looks like we've got lots of ideas for what to do with 200,000 gp at 15th level. What about a measely 19,000 gp at 7th level?

Yup. 50% miss chance is huge. But since they changed it to a standard action to activate and now it's only on for a few rounds, without bringing the price down at all, I don't think a cloak of displacement is worth the money anymore.

Cloak of Displacement, Minor: This item appears to be a normal cloak, but when worn by a character its magical properties distort and warp light waves. This displacement works similar to the displacement spell except that it only grants a 20% miss chance on attacks against the wearer. It functions continually.
Faint illusion; CL 3rd; Craft Wondrous Item, displacement; Price 24,000 gp;Weight 1 lb.

Cloak of Displacement, Major: This item appears to be a normal cloak, but on command its magical properties distort and warp light waves. This displacement works just like the displacement spell and lasts for a total of 15 rounds per day, which the wearer can divide up as she sees fit.
Moderate illusion; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, Extend Spell, displacement; Price 50,000 gp;Weight 1 lb.
I'd get a minor cloak. It's easily worth it for the sneak attack protection alone ;)

Edit: Sorry, that will not help you with level 7 starting money. I'd simply get a nice +3 weapon, possibly a +2 weapon with some energy enhancement. Tack one or two +1 armour enhancements and a funny little stat booster and your money is gone.

Yup. That's what I figured. +1 berserking greataxe (counts as +3 when raged for only the cost of a +2), +1 armor, and a stat booster and just upgrade as I go. Not very fancy. But AC, Attack, and Damage don't need to be fancy.

Especially if you are a dwarf.
