So, I don't think there has been a mention of this here. But GenCon TV are in the middle of their six episode celebration of D&D.
In each episode Peter Adkison has the designers of the various editions in the studio talking about that edition, and then they do a one-shot in that version. So far they have covered Original D&D, AD&D 1e, AD&D 2e (with Zeb Cook!), and this past saturday 3e (with Tweet and Cook). On saturday Rob will be there talking about 4e. And the last episode is next week were Mearls will talk about the design of 5e.

Here are links to the shows:

D&D 3e with Tweet and Cook (on Twitch - not on YouTube yet)
AD&D 2e with Zeb Cook
AD&D 1e with Luke Gygax
OD&D with Petterson

Thank you so much for sharing this, Big Zebra. I had not seen this and this is very interesting to me. (y)

I put a thread up about this on Monday.

"If you’re interested in the history of D&D you might want to check out this series on GenCon’s YouTube channel. Each week is a different edition with people talking about the edition, making of, behind the scenes info, and actually playing the game. They’re informal but really informative."

I watched the 2 hour intro to the 2E video and it was incredible. I cannot wait for the 4E video. That will hopefully be just as incredible.

The 2e video was a great talk
Yeah. Definitely. Some of my favorite bits were them talking about being beholden to backwards compatibility and therefore not being able to reverse AC in 2E despite it being easier and obvious. The other was them talking about not listening to players when designing because the things players want end up ruining the game, such as too much power, too many hit points, too many magic items, etc. It was really great to hear them all talk about the behinds the scenes stuff.

Oh nice. I missed that!

I’m watching the 4E episode live. It’s an absolute train wreck. Two of the three lead designers, Peter, and three players. The first hour the three players are absolutely dominating the conversation and for some reason will not shut up and refuse to talk about 4E. It’s painful. I want to hear Rob and Andy. Damn. Such a waste.
