Just a quick question - doesn't resurrection/raising put you at half the necessary XP for the next/old level, or am I thinking of something different?

Yes, actually it does--it was tucked away on a different page from the Raise Dead spell--my players always spring for True Rezes, though, which is why I didn't know :o

It actually won't matter for poor Bobbo, though.

With a name like Bobbo* he’s destined to die more than a few times…

* I apologize now if that’s truly someone’s character’s name and not just an random example.

It's probably both. I'm guessing that Rystil Arden just thought of the name out of the blue, so it's a random example. However, given the number of RPG hobbyists out there, and the variety of taste in character naming, I'm also guessing that someone somewhere actually has created a character named Bobbo. Whether Bobbo is a paladin, I can't say.

BTW, if I were creating XP-sharing rules from scratch I'd probably go with all characters in an encounter sharing equally. But it's not a big enough issue to house-rule, so I favour sticking with the 3.5 formula, just like everyone else who's weighed in on this. There seems to be overwhelming consensus not to have a proposal on the subject. Good.

I think we're better off using RAW. In Rystil's adventure, My 1st level fighter contributed to combat just as much as the 3rd level character, till I was felled by a lucky hit. Of course, that's not realy an issue with 1st-3rd. On the other hand, in my Festival adventure I'm running, Troi has earned 27 exp less than the other characters (who earned about 450) being 4th vs 1st. Not a huge difference, and definately not worth nerfing.

Actually, Somac definitely contributed the most (thanks to A'jardin's buff, admittedly). I'd call Cade and Rillian even though :)

Reincarnation ruling.

So, my gnome barbarian, Gorefoot, has been reincarnated as a halfling. The question came up, what do I lose and what do I keep?

I was wondering about this myself.

From Reincarnate from the SRD in regards to the subject:
"It retains any class abilities, feats, or skill ranks it formerly possessed. Its class, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, and hit points are unchanged."
Then it later says, "The subject’s level (or Hit Dice) is reduced by 1."

Surely it doesn't really mean that. In Gorefoot's case, he still has the same hitpoints = 27, base attack bonus = +2, etc. as a second level barbarian, but is considered to be a first level character? Of course, since he's on my team I'd me more than happy to allow it. :)

The spell basically states (unless I read it wrong), that I keep all base abilities derived from class levels (adjusted for the level reduction), and gain all abilities of the new form (except I don't automatically know the language). I would also assume that I lose all abilities from the old form, as otherwise it could get very sticky. Basically, it's like I created a halfling except I speak gnome instead of halfling. This seems like the simplest way to adjudicate it. Although I'm up for whatever ruling the judges come up with.
