So, I'm looking at my gmail account today, and at the bottom I see this:

You are currently using 89 MB (4%) of your 2067 MB.

(for the record, yes, I have a crapload of email).

But, 2067 megabytes? That's 2 GIG! Did they double it, or am I special for some reason?

Yep, they doubled the space that each user gets to store emails. They did it on or right before April 1.

Awesome IMO. However, I doubt I'll ever use all that space.

At different times it's been different amounts - last week I remember seeing 1.3gb before they'd finished increasing it.

By the way if anyone wants one I have heaps of invites.

check the main gmail page, it shows storage increasing byte by byte.

Also, on April First, they introduced the new storage plan (nope, not an April Fools joke, gmail was released April First). The new plan is called Infinity +1. They were increasing it to 2 gigs that day -- and doing so pretty quickly, at that.

And now its slowly increasing, by around a meg a day. If that keeps up, nobody will ever use all of it.

Which is kind of the point. They've abolished the need for users to be concerned with storage space. Its not as if they actually have a spare 2 gigs for all of us on the server farm, and if we all suddenly used 2 gigs they might not be able to keep up with it. Like withdrawing from a bank.

Edit: Spelling!

165MB (8%). :D

And I accidentally deleted a 70+ response email string a week ago. :]

Wow. Now that is impressive. I had more, but I went ahead and deleted about 300 message the other day. Just crap I needed to get rid of. I can't see any reason for keeping a lot of that stuff.

Do you know that the Trash counts toward your total space used? If you go through and delete all that stuff, you'll take up less space (not that you really need to). I just went and cleaned the trash folder out, and cut the amount of space I was using by 2/3.
